I did the same, after the work you did in general to core I really just had to remove a bunch of code and only one custom property was added to the topic list view.

Interestingly, I just upgraded to latest and my override didn’t break. Though I am having issues with the suggested topics showing user info sometimes and I am not sure why. I think it might have to do with the model/data store changes?

Have you updated your code with this? I was looking into this the other day but got side tracked since it wasn’t working as expected.

Cool. I’ll take a look and see if any of it will fit with my work. I had already done quite a bit of changes, so I’m thinking we need to figure out the future of custom themes and how they can be consumed/managed. How much interest is there in supporting something in core for this, including a...

So I had to fix those in mine before it diverged. You can remove the colspan from main-link. <td class='main-link clearfix' colspan="{{titleColSpan}}"> into <td class='main-link clearfix'> For category page, if you notice in mine, I surrounded all topic list styles with...

I will post my latest style later today. I’ll put it in a Github gist so that it is easier to track, that and it will have better versioning.

Still playing around with it. I think the last post is good, and adding the header I feel grounds the columns better. Still torn on the color bar and/or the category column. Honestly the default meta category bar, or even the square just don’t look great to me. Not sure what to do otherwise though.

After looking at it a while, it did always feel off. Thinking of adding the table header back, as that adds some visual continuity from top down.

mcwumbly: I think you have it right with the layout of last poster / replies. Still not a fan of the reversal @chapel did there. Is it that you don’t like avatar on the right of the text or even the replies on the right?

Completely understand about the creator info, on here I see it being a bit more important. I’ve found I don’t miss the heading. The only downside is I had to add special styling for the new posts alert. It does mean there is an odd space between the topic list and the top buttons, where as the...

@sam What do you think of some of the things I’ve done to my variation of your style? Curious since it wouldn’t have been possible if you hadn’t taken the time to create this first. Wanted to also think you for creating it, and sharing it with us all.

I do prefer the square style. Can you add it as one of the options in the category style setting?

I had the same issue. It was there regardless of the square or not. Something to do with the markup of the category badges.

I’ve made some more changes. Left of topic title has category color bar. Our forum has only two main categories (on topic and gaming) so the colors are very helpful, but the name is not as important. I could see adding the category as a column if you had enough to warrant it. I moved the replies...

I did try it but didn’t like it. Was too busy and detracted from the topic title. Felt weird having an avatar on the far left and one on the far right.

While to a certain degree I am with you there. Though having the avatar on the right flows better in regards to alignment. specially with longer usernames. I definitely prefer the username on top, as the date is somewhat secondary.

Made some changes, still feeling them out. Notes on changes: Removed creator name and date Moved poster avatar to the right Right align text Move last post date under last poster name I am thinking about what to do with the category. I like the idea of having a bar on the left of the full row...

codinghorror: The 5 avatar design default may indeed be weak for large sites and for very new users, but it optimizes for small and medium discourses with moderate to low levels of activity. I think that’s correct. I think that represents what the vast, overwhelming majority of Discourse...

I switched over to using my minimal view as the default on my forum. If you would like to see how it looks/feels feel free to check it out at Wasting Your Life I haven’t tried the squares, but I am thinking of alternative styles to try and see how they look in the different areas categories are shown.

I’m not able to reproduce or see the case you’re seeing. JSey: do we need the colspan=ā€œ{{titleColSpan}}ā€ at all? Is there any use case left for it in the new, reduced designs? Due to the modifications in the simplified topic list, I would guess that it isn’t necessary but I haven’t tracked down...

To a certain degree I agree with you. I just wonder though if for people less accustomed to forum software would be confused as far as what the last two columns are. We could get away with having replies be 120 replies for instance. Keep in mind that it is there for more than as a visual...

I was thinking that as well. It stands out too much against the list. I like the subdued look of the default header, I wonder if we changed it to be more like the default table header. Something like this?

On my variation I use the standard category helper which by default has a fatter color bar as you can see in my screenshot. I am not 100% sold on the fat one, but the thin one is also not right either. Between the two though, I prefer the fat one, if only to be consistent with its usage...

Looks like there is potentially a bug in the server code in regards to who is the original poster when the original post is edited. Interestingly enough, the edit history only shows @codinghorror editing the post once, and it was the first edit. I checked, and it isn’t an issue with ordering, as...

sam: the funny thing about the category page is that I never use it I actually don’t like it (as far as using it). I prefer latest tbh. The main difference at this point is the topic title font size and the td height which I have compressed more. I like the changes overall, and am trying it on my install to see how it goes.
