Sam's Simple Theme
Theme 2015-01-09 01:18 Post #89Keep in mind, this is my design which is very focused around me for now. If we ship a second theme (which I think we will some time next year) we will make sure to account for that or at least add a “high contrast switch” -

Theme 2015-01-08 08:09 Post #82tonninseteli: Lighter colors seem to disappear to the background. That is actually my intention, will live with it for a bit and see how I feel. -

Theme 2015-01-08 03:54 Post #79This is not a bug, its by-somewhat-hard-to-explain-design @codinghorror split off the topic from another topic so he is considered the “creator” of the topic, despite post #1 being mine. I do agree its confusing and kind of wish we had a way to override this. edit Actually there is a workaround,... -

Theme 2015-01-08 01:38 Post #76Sure, feel free to tackle it! not sure what to do here, the funny thing about the category page is that I never use it so its kind of low priority for me. -

Theme 2015-01-07 03:25 Post #62nope, not really, you need to be running latest for this to work, I just cut-and-paste this from our customization section. -

Theme 2015-01-07 03:06 Post #60The suggested topics change is by-design, but the categories do look quite bad, will get that fixed. Sorry, will sync the code up shortly. edit updated now. -

Theme 2015-01-07 01:41 Post #57An interesting observation regarding, “I have this issue in theory vs in practice” I started using this design exclusively on meta, and just now fixed incorrect avatars for last posters. Its one of those issues that in practice is critical, but in “theoretical” reviews is often missed. -

Theme 2015-01-06 07:05 Post #50Honestly the only way to tweak these kind of things is live with them. I added a super secret param so you can stick a site customisation, so for example: https://meta.discourse.org/?preview-style=589a2b8f-237f-4408-b86b-2d5f158b22b6&sticky=true makes my theme sticky for me, so I can live with... -

Theme 2015-01-06 04:32 Post #47I just updated my extension to support my latest round of refactoring and gave it a bit of a facelift Pasted image1138×683 25.3 KB In particular we now have the last poster avatar and a deemphasized category style. I am quite liking this category style, I don’t feel it gets in the way too much... -

Theme 2015-01-04 20:48 Post #46JSey: is there a way to offer the users one or several designs they could choose in their preferences? Planned feature? Plugin material? Far out? probably “ninja-super-secret” material, will not be built into the UI for quite a while. so nice ui for it will be plugin material. -

Theme 2015-01-04 20:47 Post #45I recommend holding off till the end of the week, I am in the midst of unifying the 2 places we render topic lists. -

Theme 2015-01-03 21:58 Post #41Keep in mind, this is my design we are talking about for my personal use, not a global change, as the title says … a hypothetical simpler minimal design. The only thing on the table at the moment is removal of stars from the topic lists which reduces visual clutter and unification of stars / bookmarks -

Theme 2014-12-31 14:38 Post #26boomzilla: I think replacing them with names makes things just as busy, just in a different way. A wall of color looks better to my eyes than a wall of text. I think the crux of the issue is that my perfect interface to Discourse is different to what others ideal interface is. We ship a... -

Theme 2014-12-31 14:20 Post #24An important few points here that seems to have been lost in “design discussion” is I made the front page faster (which is part of the goals for our next release) I demonstrated an involved customisation that people can muck around with today on Discourse instances I cleaned up said extension... -

Theme 2014-12-31 03:06 Post #16But that’s easily fixable with custom CSS. Thing is that it is not, colors are hardcoded into a style tag on an element, styling categories now is very hard and requires patching of discourse core. -
Sam's Simple Theme
Theme 2014-12-31 03:03 Post #15Its a mish-mash topic now, which is kind of confusing to everyone. The default core changes being discussed are: Merge star and bookmark, do away with stars in topic list Replies vs. Posts (also here) Quieten down categories Color choices But ultimately there are 2 distinct views being discussed... -

Theme 2014-12-31 02:59 Post #13Not that we can’t have both, eventually To me a huge goal here is to make stuff more extensible, ultimately I do not think the “simple” design should replace what we have now. I do think we need to cull out stars and quieten down categories in our default view, but ultimately there are different... -

Theme 2014-12-31 02:43 Post #11I like what you did with categories, but removing op is a step too far imo, also avatar seems a bit big to me. -

Theme 2014-12-31 01:34 Post #7I would retain the usernames here, not entirely sure I want the avatar for creator, but regardless usernames should stay.
