Is this surprising to anyone? I wish there was a way to avoid it.

I've been using de-googled lineage os for a while now. I run linux and don't have any google based accounts. It takes a bit to figure out all the work arounds, but i think it's worth it.

Yes and earth is not flat. It sucks that this has been done, do your best to limit your usage of products made by companies you do not agree with. You as a consumer have that power to choose what to consume.

Everyone needs a cell phone to live in modern society and if you don't buy an apple which has its own issues you pretty much have to buy a phone with an OS developed by Google. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Nokia 3310 sells for $20 and does a week on a single charge. Hack that.

Attempt to use that phone with any modern carrier.

Should be no problem. I'm in Europe where there's 1800 MHz coverage.

The complaints cited a study by the Norwegian Consumer Council that concluded the Internet giant used "deceptive design and misleading information, which results in users accepting to be constantly tracked."
