Apple terminating Epic’s developer account over Fortnite App Store protest - 9to5Mac 📦

Things are moving fast in the Epic Games vs Apple battle. After Fortnite was pulled from the App Store for breaking Apple’s rules — sneaking in a direct payment method to get around the in-app purchase system — Epic almost immediately filed a lawsuit against Apple. Now the game developer says that Apple is terminating its account. Epic shared the update on Twitter today, calling the removal of its account a “retaliation” for filing a lawsuit against Apple. The developer says that Apple is planning to terminate all of its accounts and cut it off from iOS and Mac development tools on August 28. Epic has asked the Northern District California court where it filed its lawsuit last week to block Apple from terminating its developer account in a new filing. But considering how Apple expressed that it was willing to work with Epic Games to get Fortnite back on the App Store and then Epic responded with a lawsuit and a calculated protest, that may not be very likely with Apple having the higher legal ground here.

good epic doing shady stuff like like they did to steam. and I think china owns them too

Sweeny still owns Epic as the major shareholder but Tencent is also a shareholder

Epic sucks. They even made propaganda (the commercial thing). They're just trying to maximize their profit.

Nah, the app store sucks. People should have more choice at the very least

More choices? Lol. Can you elaborate?

More app stores. Apple heavily monitors which apps can go on their app store, and fucks developers up the ass with all these additional charges just because they can. I'm not sure if I agree with epics choice to retaliate against google too, because on android there are some alternative app stores like aptoide and f-droid. I'm not sure if those have a payment system in place though

It's their OS. If you don't like it, develop your app for another OS instead. Speaking of the Playstore, there are still a lot of apps that are malicious. That's why it's so "tight"

Doesn’t change the fact that the App Store sucks. Only good things can come for us consumers from Epics retaliation to Apple. I’m not personally affected, I’m jailbroken so I can pirate freely and install all the emulators that wouldn’t be allowed on the App Store

Nice job. You're one of the reasons why a lot of developers don't like jailbroken users — because they pirate. That's a bit fucking ironic because you illegally download developers' applications, yet you criticize Apple for taking a 30% cut.

You can just add other repos on Android (f-droid, Aurora store or just an apk), so you have the control, not on Apple system.
