Sick Laptop: Is There A PC Doctor In The House? 📦

I have a pesky issue that I cannot solve. HP Envy 360 laptop, running Windows 10. I like the machine, but it has become ill. Suddenly and without warning or other changes, I get "ghost circles" on the screen. I have come to recognize them as a symbol showing that you've touched the screen (which I have not done; I don't use the touchscreen feature). Depending on where on the screen, these things start up programs, and interfere with my use of the touchpad mouse. I looked it up on a second computer, and found advice to find the Windows Device Manager, then Human Interface Devices, then remove the touchscreen driver. This did not fix the issue. Can anyone help? This has rendered the machine unusable, but I really don't want to just throw it away. By the way, I ran Spybot Search & Destroy, so I don't think it's a virus. Thanks in advance!

You need to disable the device and not just remove the driver. Windows probably restored the missing driver. https://www.windowscentral.com/how-disable-touch-display-windows-10

Looks like it worked. Who knew that "uninstall device" doesn't really get rid of it, but that "disable device" does? Not me, anyway. Thank you very much. I was tearing my hair out over this, and getting ready to shitcan the machine. I really and truly appreciate the help.

No problem. I've seen that issue several times on various devices.

good catch on that one.

The specific language he used to describe the problem and his actions to remedy it made it pretty easy to catch. If only all tech support problems had users like him I might have stayed in IT.

I might end up going back at some point. I left to start a business that I shut down earlier this year.
