AMD vs. Intel for data analysis, Matlab 📦

I have been an Intel enthusiast since switching from Mac to PC about 15 years ago. I build my own machines. My workload has changed over the years. I used to use Matlab nearly constantly for computationally intensive optimization problems. I now do only some of that Matlab work and do much more in R and "lighter" things in Matlab. When I last looked into it, Intel absolutely torched AMD for Matlab and related things. Now, I wonder if the benefit of Intel in Matlab (if it still exists) is worth the additional cost and performance hit in other applications. What are your thoughts on AMD vs. Intel for workstations? I currently have an i9 9900kf. Would any upgrade be sensible at this point? Should i be looking at a switch to AMD in, say, 5 years? Thanks for your help.

You have an extremely recent CPU, so I wouldn't personally suggest upgrading yet. However, I believe those applications gain from multi-threading, no? If so, there are certainly a number of AMD CPUs which perform significantly better in such workloads. A 5800X or 5900X would be worth looking at for this application.
