That’s one of the main problems with tech now. Companies are neglecting if not abandoning offline functionality. No matter how fast your internet is, it can go down at any time.
This is not merely a tech problem, but a consumer base problem.
There are enough technologically ignorant consoomers who'd buy the latest iDoor just because of what it is, not even stopping for a second to think about the possible security implications (or, god forbid, invest time and effort into looking for safer, open source alternatives).
So, while the above exist, companies will keep cutting costs and pumping out cheap garbage that 95% of their customer base will buy either way.
Give 3rd party, closed source software control over devices in your house that were never intended to operate under this model, and you'll pay the price.
