Are there any really good resources for learning about Bitcoin (and digital currency in general)? I'm not looking to invest or anything. Or even use it. Just interested in this phenomenon

Its not. It will never work as a currency. At best it can be used as hedge against inflation

Bitcoin is used mostly for money laundering,illegal sales and gambling. It's never going to be viable

It can't. Maybe with Lightning Network, but even that has some issues.
