While part of me feels, "Yes! Fuck miners" I realize that this sentiment is selfish. What we have here is a company purposefully gimping hardware that was sold and paid for by consumers in good faith after the fact and that shit is wrong and I hope they're sued for it. If I have the money to buy the whole stock of Ford F150s and I pay full price for them, then decide I only want to go off-roading in those trucks or even convert the trucks into boats - Ford has no fucking right to send a firmware gimp to those trucks that I bought. If I buy something, I can do whatever I want with it and the company who made it has no right to tell me what to do with my stuff. The crypto miners, as much as I hate them, have every right to get the best value out of what they were sold and what they paid for.

AMEN.

It's important to read the fine print though, that's where they can get you. They will say you consented to the disposition.

Good news but would miners be able to revert the patch or avoid it altogether? Would be cool if AMD did this too :0

[removed - friendly reminder that ruqqus does not respect user privacy and does censor free speech]

Easily. Reminder that they block a certain kind of virtualization on their gpus unless you buy a $100 card that does nothing but allow you to use the built in feature... Or just change a single line to "=true" in a config file. Nvidia's blocks are only effective against absolute retards.

Cope

To what?

What am I coping with?

I dunno how I feel about nerfing features. Sure I see why, but it feels wrong for Nvidia to do this. Just rely on CMP no?
1
Cant sell CMP cards to gamers after a year, its lacking huge resale value.

Where will the usage restrictions end? Will they wake up one day and install restrictions against political parties? They are now distributing a malware to limit perfectly capable hardware to reduce it's featureset for their own gain at the cost of the customer. Will Nvidia GPUs end up having a locked down and heavily censored and monitored app store like the one the all-seeing-eye Apple employs? This is a very slippery slope. Brand loyalists will blindly defend this unexpected and shocking infringement Nvidia has made.

Lol, miners crryyyiinngg today boy. Nice to see :)

So instead of making more cards they're gonna fuck with consumers. What a winning strategy

If you're ok with this you're part of a larger problem.

Good!

Good. If you want to mine, get a TI or a x80 tier. The rest of us pc gamers are fucking tired of hyperinflated prices and scarcities because some retard thinks mining is a get rich quick scheme.
3
Only people that don't mine think this. People that mine see it as an investment in which you trade electricity for value. And right now in most places with reasonably efficient set ups, you're trading your cost in electricity for ten times its value. A 3090 will net you $12 in bitcoin a day and cost $1 in most suburban areas of the US. Then you can sell it six months later for nearly the cost of it new due to scarcity, so it's not even a matter of your hardware needing to pay for itself. You might as well be borrowing it for a security deposit.

Imagine calling people that are generating wealth retarded because you have to play games on medium instead of high graphic settings.

No one said anything about being retarded, only you, who can't read. Also, here's 5 bucks to generate some wealth, now suck my cock faggot
6
"some retard"
1
They are not individually retarded, but as a whole the crypto mining phenomenon is retarded and a net negative for humanity. Bitcoin wasn't meant to be mined by gpus, it doesn't provide any of the value it was meant to provide. It's a massive waste of resources and energy.
4
Jesus dude us this is all gonna last 2-3 months tops. Give us miners a break. Cant wait until they brick your GPU because they decided you bought the wrong model for gaming
5
I suppose you have a point, however I'm just over here more concerned with the fact that NVIDIA is arbitraily restricting what you can and cannot do with the products you buy from them.
2
Then don’t buy from them. If you don’t like what nvidia is doing, vote with your dollars.
1
YES.

To be fair I think it's actually normies this time around that are ruining everything because they've suddenly discovered gaming as a hobby, either way, expect thousands of 'used' graphics cards or PCs to suddenly start appearing on ebay towards the end of the year I suspect when they're done with everything and they can go outside again. I don't think the cryptocurrency prices have risen all that much to really justify the current crazy. They went for the hand sanetiser and toilet rolls, then they went for all the flour, then the switch, now the fuckers are all going for PC components. They thought they were going after essentials and now they're going after the luxury items so they don't lose their minds in isolation.

At risk of sounding like a Boomer: STFU and get a job you fucking nerds. The only way to get rich quick is hard work or long term investment.
