when i think of fry's i think of big lots except for computers. i don't think i'd use them for work or an expensive home project but there's no point in paying top dollar for something like an amateur music studio or file/plex server

Im actually pretty bummed to hear this. In my area, Frys was the only big computer store within 200 miles or so that sold motherboards, cases, RAM, and other parts at an actual decent price. I have A LOT of memories from the 2000's of going there and buying stuff for builds. With how Amazon and other online retail is going, I doubt that any similar store will take its place.

I was in one a few days ago. Most of the shelves were gone and they didn’t have much of anything to choose from. All of their DIY electronic stuff was gone. Really sad.

Supposedly they were re-tooling into an outlet chain but I guess it didn't pan out. Fry's was never my preferred place to buy stuff but they were helpful in a pinch and several years ago they had a good selection of tech items. I had no qualms about telling anyone asking me about mice or keyboards or such "just go see what they have at Fry's." When I bought my house I ran new plenum CAT6A cable in the walls with a spool purchased on sale there. I still remember a Christmas season one year I made the mistake of driving over there and the parking lot was SO full. I couldn't even get in, the line of cars was insane. The last items I bought were rechargeable AA's for my VR controllers. Oh well.

This sucks, I'm glad I got some pictures of the place before they completely closed. They had low stock for a long time.
