Very interesting. I wonder if they have done tests on pictures of living people and compared it to their actual facial movement to see how realistic it is.
I wonder if it takes into account things like laugh lines, etc to judge the most likely facial movements thr person might make.
I’ve done it on some current pics and it depends on the picture. Sometimes it’s off and it just looks neat. But then sometimes it absolutely nails it and you feel like you’re watching a video of them
Watching my grandpa look around and look at me was pretty emotional
You can do this yourself with Yanderify. Just need a beefy rig (or lots of time) and some PS masking skills. Your skillset is the limit, but you can achieve results just like the ones in OP. Essentially you:
a) Find a headshot of the motion you want to reproduce, or create a quick video of yourself using the desired animation (mouth, eyes, blinks, profiles)
b) Find the source photo you want to animate and crop it to just a headshot
c) Load this into Yanderify, mess with some options, wait a long time
d) Take this output and use layer masks to overlay the video output into the static background image via Photoshop
