I fucking hate Microsoft so much. Every time I think it's not possible for me to dislike them more, they just keep steaming along.
Just fucking lol @ anti-trust laws.
In the wake of the 2020 Woke-ism, I noticed a few things. Many companies will cuck for a buck, kneel and make statements, when no one before really cared about whether they voiced an opinion. In a sea of virtue signaling bullshit from Netflix to Coca-Cola, there are two very prominent examples of companies that refused to get involved in political shit that is not their purview:
1) Microsoft
2) Valve
I gained huge respect for both companies since they refuse to deliberately step into that quagmire.
Microsoft be out there making "Daily Pass" shit though. I'd also wager if you dug enough you'd find some Microsoft woke content, but I do see what you're saying in that they haven't been as brazen about it as Google/Netflix/Amazon/Spotify etc.
Nice to see a shout out for trueSpace. I *loved* that suite, it was the first 3D modeling and animation program I ever owned.
That Microsoft let it rot was a crime. So much wasted potential there.
You can still download a copy that some internet friends have added some functionality and stuff to. Its still a fantastic and intuitive interface that makes for quick, basic modelling, which can then be sent over to some newer software for cleanup and detailing. I only dabble in 3D myself, but tS was absolutely the best software package out there at the time when it came to being able to quickly model and ease of use. I hope you get some mileage out of it!

Microsoft is most likely just creating competition to help Discord drive up it's price without making a serious offer (and thereby driving up the value of tech overall. Microsoft doesn't want to moderate a damn thing, that's why they basically dropped Skype like a hot potato.)
What do you mean they dropped Skype?
They kind of ruined it, but it's still theirs, and didn't they use the Skype technology for Teams and other products?
That's what they actually do they'll buy something dissect it for the parts they like then make something different with it. Their overall goal is to have fingers in everything. That's why they make software for other hardware companies to use instead of making the hardware too.
Have you never heard of [Embrace, Extend, Extinguish?](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Embrace,_extend,_and_extinguish) This was their actual business strategy against Linux not so far back.
They might not want either of them, but they're willing to shit-can both for some reason and pay money for the privilege.
Teamspeak, while free, is an awful and outdated platform. Guilded is basically an open source discord, and actually has more features than Discord does.
I've tried Guilded before, it's still pretty early in dev, a lot of stuff isn't on the mobile app it in general does feel slow
I do hope it becomes larger but it'll take time
Guilded doesn't have anything equivalent to BetterDiscord though. I like my themes and plugins and if Guilded releases an official storefront (Like Discord promised but never delivered on) it would be a Discord killer.
I hate Microsoft as much as the next guy, but I also hate fear-mongering and I think we should avoid cynicism here. They bought GitHub, but GitHub didn't really get any worse. In fact, it got better by allowing more private repositories and offering a few more features for free users. Buying a company doesn't mean suddenly they're cleaning house of all the devs and management... It means they're spending $10b to hopefully make more than $10b over the course of the next few years, and have some say over the development of the program, but more likely the business side of things. They're not stupid, and probably won't change the recipe too much. You don't buy a world-class cake recipe and then change the recipe.
That being said, I'd wish Microsoft would just leave me alone.
In a more optimistic view, these are what I expect MS to do it they do end up buying discord.
Since there's already Nitro + Game Pass promos, they might bundle those 2 together
Maybe some kind of Discord VC for Xbox, would be pretty cool?
Microsoft Account requirement will probably come in the future (see Minecraft)
And of course they'll move it off Google Cloud onto Azure (see Minecraft Realms AWS to Azure)
Or they could end up making it free (see github private repos) and taking the route of selling your data or a long term investment of sorts?
Matrix is a decentralized network. Element is the most popular chat app to use with it. It works a lot like the fediverse in that you can host your own stuff and connect it to everyone elses.
Well, it was fun while it lasted.
Everyone who will tenaciously hold on to their servers and accounts: hope you look forward to the inevitable Microsoft account integration and shameless monetization of the platform.
