The most useful software that I use on my Windows PC 📦

* [Everything](https://www.voidtools.com/) - *"Locate files and folders by name instantly"* Search for files properly. * [MPV](https://mpv.io/) - *"a free, open source, and cross-platform media player"* Get rid of VLC and use this instead. * [WizTree](https://wiztreefree.com/) - *"Find the files and folders using the most space on your hard drive - QUICKLY!"* Provides an interface to locate files that take up space on my small SSD. * [RetroArch](https://www.retroarch.com/) - *"a frontend for emulators, game engines and media players"* So I don't have to mess around with individual emulators and get to have a consistent UI across all the cores installed. OBS, Notepad++, Paint.net and the likes weren't included as I feel they are already well known enough, if you want to mention any just comment below :)

Notepad++ is awesome. I would also add q-dir (https://q-dir.en.softonic.com ) for a multi view explorer window For me its Office, especially excel and onenote, visual studio and Photoshop. Not free but world class software for a reason

I like MPV, but it's not worth replacing VLC over

Why?

I don't really mind a thicker client. I use MPV for quick one off vids; I feel like it excels at that. I still find myself using VLC for watching series or playlists. I know MPV can do practically everything VLC can, though.

I started maining mpv after this post and have come to prefer it a bit over VLC. It's snappier and more customizable. It's also superior for playing music.
