I didn't know there is a flag for this. Whats the point of it though?

Read the article... there are numbers encoded in the flag based on color values, if you put them all together then you get the key for decrypting DVDs and Blu-Rays (a so-called "illegal number"). People tried to ban this key from the internet when it was leaked and this was one clever way around that.
