Eventually, someone will make a nonsubscription-based vest and put the old company outta business. No need for gov regulations here. When I buy a product I want to own the product not rent it.

I agree, free market should fix this problem. But shit what a terrifying thought to be out work a potentially deactivated vest because you forgot to update that auto-payment when your card expires

While it is kinda understandable, this is also +AssholeDesign.

No not at all understandable. Subscription based products need to die

yea they should just charge a 1-time fee to buy the vest and then have it work indefinitely. I hate how more and more things are becoming subscription-based these days.

As soon as someone dies with a deactivated one (especially if their payments were on time) some unlucky motorcyclist's family is going to be the new owners of a company.

Reading the headline I was conflicted. You can pay $800 outright to own it, or $400 + a $12/month subscription fee. Makes sense if you only plan to ride a few months out of the year. Plus there's a 30-day grace period if you cancel payment.

I think it's just the idea that a safety device would "stop working" that makes people angry. I wonder if they could have found a different way to handle financing.

Well at that point, they *definitely* ain't getting paid.
