Windows 11 Home requires Microsoft account and net connection to use.

I knew this was coming ever since I noticed some new Windows 10 devices forcing people to create MS account during setup. This was back in 2019 intermittent and would only happen if the device had live internet connection. When you switched off the device and unplugged the ethernet cable or move out of the wifi range the installer would suddenly change and then let you create a local account. At that moment I realized that Microsoft will force this on all users. It will be only a matter of time. The compulsive consumers on Level1techs forums were calling me conspiracy theorist and paranoid but I was right. Here comes Windows 11 Home and MS account is mandatory to set it up. Mark my words, this will come to the professional version too. Eventually they will move the Active Directory tools to Azure and you will be forced to create MS account if you will want to manage domain accounts in your company. Just like Sharepoint and Office365 management portals are in their cloud today. Once everybody is signed in with online accounts in their computers it is not out of the question that they will start charging people monthly subscription because gotta keep maximising those profits. The worst thing will be that most people will happily put up with this and cheer on as the corporation takes away all control from our equipment. Fucking bootlickers.

Win11 is going to be trash.

I wonder if there's a way to block auto-update at this point entirely to prevent it from installing anything, because this is going to be cancer, I'm going to be keeping a close eye on this. It will be ridiculous, I don't want to have to switch to Linux if I can help it with the compatibility issues especially with regards to my work but microsoft may leave us all with no choice if we have to connect to a Microsoft account of all things. Although then again, what's to stop us all from just making throwaway accounts to get around the problem? It seems pretty daft.

I would just create a throwaway. But windows 10 is what? 5 years old. And it's still kind of a buggy mess. There's no way I'm upgrading to win 11 any time soon.

Its pretty damn polished and consistent in comparison to many Linux distros. My biggest gripe with 10 is the UI inconsistency between legacy and modern. Looking at you Control Panel.

Ah yes, create a new Settings program that in most cases, doesn't have the ability to modify anything. brilliant

Its frustrating as hell. Its even more disjointed on 21H1. They need to get this shit sorted out once and for all. Either move it all feature by feature to the new settings view or move it all feature by feature to a visually updated Control Panel

i bet the windows codebase is a clusterfuck

I come from the games development angle but I've always wanted to see just how bad the code for the software these corporations and big companies have really is, I think part of the reason they're so hush hush about it is because if an outsider looked at it the code would just look like absolute cancer.

I am sure it is. I would say the Linux one is as well. In fact the only one that probably isn't is MacOS because Apple has made the decision to scrap and redo in the past

I believe the current EULA of Windows 10 says if you login to your computer with online account they have the right to go through your files on HDD. So it does not matter if the account you are using is real or with fake name because they will be able to view all your shit. Windows 11 EULA will be similar but worse I imagine.

Well that's really bad, it's looking like the best option is for a dual boot so you can play games etc. normally and then have all the important shit on Linux.

Hence why I use Windows 10 Ameliorated for gaming and Linux Mint for everything else.

Yes, I have blocked auto updates. I installed a Pi Hole and blocked all of Microsoft's domains that are used for sending the updates, so the automatic updating program can't connect to them.

how's reactOS

I've been keeping an eye on it for 10+ years. I never really tried it, but I don't think it's usable for daily use yet.

Who the fuck is even thinking about installing Windows these days?

The majority of the world that use computers

It serves no purpose. People that don't know how to use technology already have OSX.

Not even close. Do some research before you spout off on that which you don't know. 73% Windows vs 15% MacOS vs Linux around 2% Source https://hostingtribunal.com/blog/operating-systems-market-share/

....Its a joke dude. Take a breath and uninstall Cortana.

Attempting to cover your ass for your falsehoods I see. And I actually posted this on the fedora instance I am playing around with. Thanks to @RootHouston for convincing me to try it with Gnome40

Covering my ass? For who? You know none of us actually know each other right? Listen if I hurt your feelings by insulting a company, I didnt mean it. We can still be friends, and I was wrong, any OS that comes with Candy Crush preinstalled is absolutely not for window lickers. Before you blow a fuse, I am, still fucking around, and you shouldn't let it bother you. Im probably just lashing out from getting owned.

Now you're resorting to gaslighting? That's when you know someone is petty.
1
Gaslighting. Over a jab at Windows. Microsoft Windows. Is this a special needs guild, or did I stumble on to Reddit? Here, Ill attempt to clear the air: Windows is a massive pile of unmitigated fuck. Those that take personal offense at other people thinking so, should have their shoelaces taken and their mittens sewn to their sweaters. Have to comment here because I have been blocked by Lethn. Lol Jesus Christ.

You didn't hurt my feelings. Too many people have this hard on for Linux and an irrational hate of Windows or MacOS. they are just tools. Use which tool is best for you
2
Of course. That doesnt mean we cant talk shit and have a good time while we wait for some nerd that uses Arch to come in and ruin our fun.
1
I am good with that but the main issue is that its not always easy to tell when you are just talking shit versus being serious online
1
I just assume everyone is, when we arent talking about serious stuff.

I earnestly tried Linux mint one time, I'm going to have to study up on VirtualMachines now which is a pain depending on how intrusive the Windows 11 update is, I'll see how it goes but this is going to be a shitshow I think most people can already tell. I was playing Battlefield 1 and even in the chat they had started talking about it lol. Thing that got to me as well is I tried getting Unity to run on Linux mint and it was such a frustrating pain in the arse, I need that for my work, not only was I having problems running my HDRP project, microsoft visual studio was borked too so now I have to research an alternative for linux just in case apofdpofkappfdapkpdoa. The only alternative if things get really bad for me is I'm going to have to import my entire project to Godot and I am NOT looking forward to that possibility, fucking microsoft trying to break shit. I was planning on getting more storage space anyway but I suspect I'll have to account for the shit that a VM takes up just installing the pretend version of windows, what a gigantic pain in the arse, this is why I'm thinking of just doing a second mini-ITX linux build because then I can have one running windows and one running Linux without messing around with software constantly.

Vmware player is your friend on Windows. As for W11 remember that's its just an updated W10. Its not something completely different. Same base platform with some visual and workflow related enhancements. As long as your hardware is compatible the upgrade should be pretty seamless. Just wait a couple of weeks after they start distributing it before upgrading. Make sure you check for driver updates before doing so to assist in compatibility fixes. Same as you should do now

It won't come to pro versions anytime soon. They will cut their cash cow with business if they do that and they know it. I also suspect they will revert this to be like 10 before it goes live and I also suspect it won't apply for home versions that go the in place upgrade route when they have local accounts already set up. Don't use the gimped home version anyway. Its always been crap
