It wouldn't be a big issue to me if I could just fill out a survey and ACTUALLY SAY what kind of products and interests I'm into and the rest can be vague anonymous non-personal data for demographics Info.
I don't need and ad for every little thing I type or say appearing on email, phone, ect.
That an a limit to how much im ad'ed at. Theres only so much I can hear about the same product repeatedly before I decide Ill never get it cause the ad irritated me so much. Especially when it constantly interrupting entertainment.

Depends: How much? What guarantees of privacy do I have and how will it be transparent about that? Will I just end up using Google anyway when I can't find what I'm looking for?

Obviously privacy and search quality will be very important. One of the commenters suggested they should also offer privacy-protecting email/calendar/documents like Google does, I like that idea. If someone could do this and accept crypto payments, or cash in an envelope, I'm sold.

It's a fine idea but how can we be sure they're not double-dipping?

Yeah, needs a regular external audit managed by people who are highly critical, capable, and trustworthy.

Nope, I wouldn't trust any form of big tech any more than I do the media/government.

Just because you pay for their service does not mean that they keep their promises,

I would be okay either paying for an ad free search engine. I'd also be okay logging into a service like that to select topics for targeted ads if it didn't require an email or any other data to register / log in. Considering the log in functionality would only have a single purpose it wouldn't be a big deal if you lost your credentials. It would have to be open source though. That way it can be audited by anyone so we know we can trust it.
