I'm an old fag. Facebook was awesome for connecting with people from your school and keeping up with what they were doing. It was absolutely incredible when it came out but yeah it's shit now.

If I'd know that Facebook would grow beyond that I never would have created an account in the first place. The only regret I have about leaving the site years ago is that I merely deactivated my account rather than deleting it outright.

I deleted my old one years ago when I graduated college. For some reason I felt the need to get involved again when certain social groups I wanted to be a part of useful FB to organize and plan. Now, I logged off and deleted the app and only keep Messenger to allow for direct communication.

It's fine to try to talk people out of extremist groups but the people who run Facebook actually believe that extreme ideas are only found on the right. Such a perspective sets the stage to abuse people who don't conform to leftists beliefs.

Eh while I’m all for competition in the marketplace I think social media itself is a problem no matter who’s running it. Personally I got platform fatigue and ever since deleting FB off my phone and replacing it with absolutely nothing my mental health has been its best in years.

Critical mass. Everyone's friends are on Facebook and a lot of business and marketing is done there. Most people are gonna address their immediate livelyhood over the gradual and more difficult to perceive loss of freedom. For many people, not using Facebook is a disadvantage they can't afford.

I'm seeing it all over the place at the moment, this is the kind of gaslighting I'd expect from your average left wing users on social media, given how they've just been taking over big tech constantly I'm not surprised if this was real, they absolute love pulling this shit on people to make them doubt themselves, they're all a bunch of low grade manipulative sociopaths at best. I am extremely wary though because I do not like the idea of them targeting people with real problems but this is how they do things especially on reddit. It's easy for us to shrug and go yeah that's why we don't use these sites but other people aren't going to be as informed as we are about their inner workings and they're the ones you have to worry about that might end up blowing up somewhere or killing somebody over this shit and the leftists know it.

I got rid of fb a long time ago because of this kind of extremism. The government doesn't have to keep you in line or force you to do anything when corporations will do it for them.
