The more the southern states transition to renewable energy, artificially inflate energy costs, and get pushed towards a national grid; the less likely they'll remain independently reliable. I'm referring more at the lack of advancing battery technology. The world has been running off the same concept for the last 50 years. Technology and energy consumption is advancing faster than our ability to harness the power needed to operate most things.
