And yet people will complain about this... On Facebook.

Man I love my Oculus Quest 2 but fuck me, why do I need a fucking facebook account to use it? It's infuriating. They say it's "so I can play with my friends and family" fuck you facebook I have no friends and my family are all boomers.

Sell it and buy an Index and support the only gaming company honestly working on trying to bring linux to the forefront in gaming.

Index costs 4x as much and I need to mount room sensors.. quest doesn’t even need a PC. It’s perfect for my small space and budget.

Index costs 2.5x as much (although it's far superior) as the quest2 and mounting the sensors is easy even in a small room. However, if you don't have a PC than I guess I don't blame you much, but people keep buying into the Amazon/Facebook bullshit out of mere convenience and then complain about it. Drives me a little nuts tbh.

I do have the PC for it. Valve Index kit sells for $1319.00 Cdn. Quest 2 is 399 so the index is considerable more investment and like I said I don’t want to dink with base stations tbh. I can play Alyx just fine and it’s my first foray into VR so for me buying an index felt like buying a Ferrari before I had my drivers licence. They’ve already hacked the quest 2 so hopefully someone will come up with a way to disable the Facebook account. I also already block Facebook trackers on my router via openWRT so it works for now.

I think you forgot to convert the Quest 2 to CAD, as it shows as $629.99 CAD according to the Oculus website. I based my prices off of USD, which is Index $999 USD (which comes with Alyx, so a better deal than I bought it for a couple years ago, damn) and Quest 2 at $399 USD. Like I said, I understand. It was my first foray too but I preferred to get something that I knew the tech would still be current a few years down the road (which it is, it's still way ahead of the games right now) plus the added bonus of supporting a company that does things I like (usually, I didn't like that they built an alternative steam client for China, but I get it), but to each his own. That's good that you're finding ways to block facebook out of your life. I hate everything that company does and stands for.

I went cheapest for the 64gb version. I did spring for the cable and the better head strap for all told I guess 500 after taxes but I’m happy with it so far.

Gotta be in it to win it, no thanks!.

The deep-state will try to create a new substrate for all software upon which nothing uncensored is possible.

Try to?

Honestly this sounds like he’s going to try to enter the phone space eventually, and I think it’s good to have more competition. I mean it’s unfortunate that it’s all the people ideologically speaking, but as these companies get older they’ll hopefully replace the long-standing executives with money managers who don’t care as much about politics

What I’d like to see is completion for a new net, which I could see this turning into a couple decades down the line. The net should NOT be a utility, and people will only realize that once we have competition for it

Who even uses Facebook anymore except middle age white women? Nobody I know uses it

Isn’t Facebook boomer central at this point though? Just under a decade ago it was already becoming uncool and people were leaving en masse for other platforms

Not in my house.
