Banned from r/Libertarian

62    10 Feb 2024 14:26 by u/x246ab

Something is going on over at r/Libertarian, and it’s not good. I’m a libertarian and have been seeing more and more posts on that sub bashing Democracy. Obviously there is a difference between democracy direct democracy. The posts seem to be intentionally obfuscating this difference. I’ve called out and tried to make clear what this difference is a few times. That just got me banned. Obviously the people running r/Libertarian are in no way libertarians

Interesting how many people are getting banned from that sub recently. They must have got a new mod or something? Also. It's ironic considering their supposed ideology.
11
Libertarianism means *I* get to do what *I* want
-4
And everyone else as well. It's a shame it went from do whatever to a neocon ideology.
2
\*As long as it doesn't hurt others. That doesn't stop the fact that weak minds are in charge of /r/libertarian and are taking actions similar to left-wingers that want to control speech. Most libertarians have no idea what liberty actually means, they just are too scared to say they are conservatives.

Half of self-proclaimed American libertarians are just Republicans who like weed

Republicans who like weed and dick
1
It's Reddit. Can't deny it attracts a certain kind of person, doubly so for positions of "power" like moderator.
1
I agree. A lot of weak minded people who don't understand freedom think of themselves as Libertarian. Censorship on a libertarian board is funny and sad. More sad.
6
I was banned from there for saying that "the answer is in the middle". (As an avowed centrist who has voted libertarian.) There is nothing libertarian about that sub.
1
besides them all acting like domesticated house cats?
1
Every reddit community is essentially centered around a 14 year old’s conception of the subreddit title. Libertarianism? Lmao dude weed and guns.
2
I mean I’m center-libertarian as well. I even helped run a certain libertarian presidential campaign in the State I was living in that year (what’s a Leppo?), got involved in the Party (bad idea) and realized that the philosophy of Liberty won’t get anywhere if we can’t take little wins when they come instead of demanding political purity that aligns perfectly with our views. It was the dumbest group of supposedly smart people I’ve ever had to work with, and they can’t get over themselves enough to cooperate. I wasn’t surprised, just disappointed.
-3
It’s only ironic if you misunderstand the ideology. A forum is not the state, and it can be as selective as it wants to be.
1
Which is funny how many in that sub complain about folks getting banned in Politics. Been that way for some time. Just another echo chamber.
1
Talk about a stretch.
3
R/libertarian used to be quite libertarian though. Practically no moderation.
1
It was taken over by the Mises Caucus a while back and are just MAGA authoritarians who broker no dissent.
2
Rumor has it that you gotta submit a picture of you digging up Rothbard and giving him a handy before they’ll see you as one of them.
2
It's not ideologically inconsistent, people that go super far libertarian are anarcho capitalists who want no government whatsoever. Thus, there is no such thing as democracy because the people don't vote because there is no centralized power at all
1
AnCap/Voluntaryist is Libertarianism’s final form. Many haven’t left their fledgling phase yet.
1
That place is an umbrella for all right -libertarians afaik
1
Well, it’s supposed to be an umbrella for all Libertarians, right or left. And there’s nothing wrong with that. All I’m saying is that non-AnCap/Voluntartists are fledgling libertarians who have not yet come to terms with the, as of yet, hypothetical end result of Libertarianism in action. Not hating, just pointing out the observation. I can be allies with people who have different world views as myself.
2
I remember the first day I used reddit. I was banned from r/unpopularopinion for my first post, which criticized the sub. Ofc when I pointed out the hypocrisy the dorky (probably redundant) mod just acted dorkier.
1
I figure it's because it's an election year and they're not taking kindly to flocks of unwanted visitors
1
Posing as a conservative group and using that campaign against the fundamentals of democracy is suggestive of foreign influence. One specific adversary has been caught doing this quite a lot recently.
2
Their ideology is a paradox
2
They probably just got a new mod "installed" so they can make it just like every other sub is now.
2
That or they are on super secret probation and being threatened with bans by reddit if they don't "clean up their act". I've seen several subs get neutered into obscurity that way.
1
I've heard about that happening too. Any subs come to mind that has happened to recently?
2
Oh that subs always been a shitshow, I think it got taken over by a communist a few years ago, not even kidding.
1
It definitely was run by socialists and their ilk. Last I remember hearing, it shifted towards real libertarianism. Not sure if it's changed back since then.
3
I don't want to be a tin foil hatter, but I've noticed a huge increase in very anti-democratic and bad faith posts in about the last month or so. I know right wingers exist, but normally they seem to actually believe what they say and not put much effort in. But you'll see posts in stuff like unpopularopinion or comment replies that are like multiple paragraphs of very detailed anti-democratic and anti-western sentiment coming from accounts less than 6 months old.
2
I've also noticed the anti democracy posts recently.
13
I'm somewhat amused this meme got you canned, I saw it on that sub and I thought it was completely accurate.
13
The comment got me banned. I did not post the meme
8
Wow. I too, was thinking it was the meme. I was wondering why you'd post the meme and the comments. Now it makes sense. That sub is overrun by extremists that wants to tell you that you're throwing your vote away if you don't vote Republican or Democrat.
1
The comment is 100% accurate and completely inline with libertarian thinking. I thought got a second that was the mods reply of why the meme is banned. Best to just ignore them and move on. Not worth your time.
1
> I thought it was completely accurate. If you don't like democracy, why are you in libertarian sub?
11
Probably Reddit admins acting as mods. They are infiltrating any sub that leans right and starting to censor them.
10
That makes sense, now. Someone once made a comment about China using fentanyl to poison the US and I replied that they must have learned it from the British forcing opium down their throats. 7 day account ban. An account ban.
1
They might have figured you were some Chinese bot because facts I guess, but lacked evidence besides the comment in question.
2
Can someone help me understand what it means to be a "bot"? I've been on the internet for a long time. Like 90s long time. To *me* a bot is an automated script. It can't think. It can't respond to different things in different ways depending on the input/situation. When I hear "its a bot" I think of a program that poses as ab account to like..spam post the same thing or something. It can't *interact*. I've gotten really confused with all the constant talk of bots. Are they able to just full on chat with people now? Or is it kind of like "troll" which has lost its meaning now too as people tend to use it for someone they disagree with. I'm confused 😕
2
Yeah. Its become a term for like a paid troll who spreads misinformation. They might use scripts to post comments. If you see it, you will know. Be like 40 comments of half naked women that all say the same thing.
1
google wumaos
1
> When I hear "its a bot" I think of a program that poses as ab account to like..spam post the same thing or something. It can't interact. In this context does ChatGPT "interact"?  I think the term bot is used now as a catch-all for all bad-actors, specifically, those pushing a specific agenda or talking point(s). Although I don't doubt that ai chat bots can and are used by companies/politicians/foreign governments to disparage their competitors.
1
That is a valid observation as to why China may have such a motive.
3
Probably because every right leaning sub is infested with fucking bots and hostile foreign government disinfo campaigns ya donkeys
1
So Reddit admins are banning rational arguments from the right-leaning subs?
1
Are there any rational arguments in right leaning subs? Every time I peruse it's just a bunch of brain washed weirdos repeating things they've heard and rationalizing their own prejudices.
1
Because the rational ones get banned, apparently lol
1
Right wing subs tend to quiet any dissenting voices honestly. They have their script and if you deviate you are immediately banned. The most echoey of echo chambers
1
lol bullshit. Ridiculously stupid lies. It may appear that way, but that’s because there’s a serious problem with right wing politics this day and age; violence. Go to any right wing subreddit, and within five minutes you can find numerous threats of violence to someone/a group.
1
I wonder, what percentage of murderers vote democrat and what percent vote republican.

https://www.theverge.com/2016/11/23/13739026/reddit-ceo-steve-huffman-edit-comments Oh look it actually happened. Fucking cunt muffin
1
The article says the ceo changed his name out for someone elses in a comment... For an hour.. omg conspiracy confirmed. Your claim was reddit admins were infiltrating subs and banning people. Its not supported by your source my stupid friend.
2
Dude where would I get the proof of that? But it’s probably happening. Reddit is such a left wing circle jerk and the primary media platform of the American left at this point. Not sure why you are offended unless you are a mod or admin and you know it’s happening.
0
Get shit on dude
1
> Reddit is such a left wing circle jerk A foot soldier appears!
1
Why are you making claims when you also have no idea where you'd get the proof for those claims from?
1
> The article says the ceo changed his name out for someone elses in a comment... For an hour.. Do you really think that is the first time spez used his privileges on the site to do something that no other regular person would be able to do? That this is an indication of the company culture and their respect for integrity of their user's data?
-2
Jesus, you guys always need a conspiracy and to be a victim lol
-4
Nope, it's the Mises Caucus authoritarians who are banning anyone who challenges their MAGA narrative. Banned for arguing for body autonomy, which goes against their 'fuck women's rights' stance.
2
Lol buddy, 90% of Reddit is 100% heavy left wing including most of the mods and all of the admins. What is body autonomy and what are you so angry about
1
Don't want the government to tell me what I can and can't do with my body. Clear enough? /boggle
1
Well a baby isn’t your body. I know where you are going with this. And don’t worry you can still kill your baby in most states you psychopath
1
In which case, it can be removed at will. Thank you for playing.
1
So I can evict that poor family who doesn't pay rent in the middle of winter up here in Alaska?
1
Dude he’s spot on about that sub. Why you’re deflecting who knows but Libertarian is hardly a leftist sub. The folks who mod that now are as bad as Conservative. Just want an echo chamber.
1
>EDIT: you have been on Reddit for 12 years with the same account which means you are nothing but a sheep because you never say something against the establishment of Reddit else you would have been banned. Umm...
7
R/libertarianmemes is the sub your looking for. R/libertarian is rather authoritarian
1
He didn't post the meme. He posted a comment on it.
2
r/libertarianmeme is kinda a mixed bag these days.
1
All right leaning subs are. They've been infected. Conspiracy got hit the hardest with the cancer in the past few years. It's practically /news at this point.
1
It's literally a "which ideology can create a shittier sub" nowadays lol.
1
Rather is an understatement.
1
Libertarianmeme is modded by the same jackboots that mod libertarian.
5
Yeah that sub has been taken over by pro-Russia and anti-democracy folks. I got banned myself for saying voting was a good thing lmao
2
Fuck the Mises Caucus.
3
If you really want to make someone into an arsehole, make them a reddit mod.
2
Yeah I don’t know what these idiots think will be a better form than democracy.
1
Maybe what america was founded as? A constitutional republic
2
Most subs have been taken over by leftist morons unfortunately.
2
Lame. How did anything they said refute your post anyway? I hate it when people lecture about stuff people understand anyway too, we KNOW how our government works.
2
I got banned from there for calling ancaps retards. It's disappointing how bedwed ancaps seem to be to libertarians there as they're incompatible with bloody reality.

I don't recall America ever being labeled as "democratic"... in fact, that was meant to be avoided cause, well, ask Greece. Democracies fail.
8
Democrats and progressives will say it is a democratic country, often.
5
They've been wrong since the beginning of time so...
1
Quite the ironic statement 😂
6
It’s supposed to be a democratic country because power is derived from the people— from the consent of the governed. The phrase “We the People, in order to form a more perfect union…” in our preamble is an example. This is a different thing from a “direct democracy” where everyone votes on everything and you get mob rule. The founders were clearly and explicit against that. But they were not against power being derived from the people and needing the consent of the governed. It has nothing to do with being a progressive. If power is [supposed to be] derived from the people in a system of government, it is “democratic”. We [in the US] are in a system set up as a constitutional democratic republic.
5
We are a Democratic Republic. Puts both Democrat and Republican in the name. In short terms, a democracy has the people vote, and in a democratic republic, the people have representatives who are SUPPOSED to represent their voters and vote on bills that benefit the country and their state.
1
Suppose to doesn’t matter, you vote, the US functions as a direct and representative democracy, you vote directly on law through proposition as well as by representation creating legislation. I really think this growing right wing democracy bad stuff is foreign influencers taking advantage of our poor education system.
5
Republic is just a cute name for what political scientists call a representative democracy. If anyone ever tried to claim that a republic is somehow distinct, they are letting the world know that they have no idea what they are talking about.
5
Worked with an obscenely radical left wing dude before and he said that Jan 6 was the worst day in American history and that it was the day our democracy was destroyed. It's been a couple years now and I still haven't gotten my eyes to unroll.
3
I love when these people say that you can’t fight the government with guns, and then they say that a bunch of Trump zealots almost took over the government
1
So what was it then just a harmless politician-hanging festivity? The fake elector scheme was the overturning democracy part. If you can't see that you are willfully blind.
4
Educated people will say it’s a democratic country as they are educated….. Jesus Christ this right wing kooky take on this never ceases to amaze me. The US is a representative democracy that functions as republic. Democracy does not equate to direct democracy… republic not the opposite of democracy, tyranny is.
1
Thomas Jefferson and James Madison’s political party was called the democratic republicans….. you were given the right to vote… they absolutely did not want to avoid democracy they wanted to avoid a direct democracy at a federal level, you still practice direct democracy at a local and state level on this country. They totally planned on people like you though lol it’s why the country isn’t run on political tribalist hot takes
2
Yeah. Civics has failed. The US is a democratic system. Full stop.  A representative democracy is still a democracy.
1
Democracy is an illusion it always lead to socialism , just look at the state of 🇨🇦🇺🇸 tell me that’s a nice functioning democracy 😆
1
Democracy is violence. Anarchy is freedom.
1
Yessir and they you get called anarachisfs and terrorists
3
I bet you think this is deep lol. So you are a fan of tyranny as that is the opposite of democracy bud. Wonder why they call people like you fascists lol
1
No I’m living in a tyrannical ruled country right now Canada , news is censored online podcasts are being banned cause they don’t want people talking about all their fuckups , there’s a new tax every quarter we pay 75% of our yearly income to Taxes every year , don’t have many freedoms left and tyrant corrupt politicians laundering and embezzling money driving the economy down the shitter it’s currently in , it’s great trying to live here I love it
2
No one said you can’t vote your rights away….. go read why the US constitution was made to be what it is.
1
> If it was far right They honor WWII Nazis.
1
Yes, and the far left thinks Stalin and Mao were cool despite them being the greatest mass murderers in modern history. What's your point here? Honoring people wasn't really what I was talking about, more of far-right bullshit being religious fundamentalism, ultra-nationalism, etc...
1
I misread your comment and responded inappropriately. Cheers.
1
There are very critical and real criticisms of democracy, and there’s a reason it hardly works in real life, but all the education system says (at least in canada) is “democracy less efficient, dictator more effficient”. Our education system even lies sometimes by saying immigration is good for the economy as a blanket statement. Public education is bad for many reasons, one because theres a slight left-bias in it (in canada but every country has its propaganda). [Democracy For Realists](https://youtu.be/JpyArJvTTsQ?si=k9aYMwbF2YtZrLPE)
1
Sounds like something a fascist would say to convince stupid ppl democracy is bad.
1
Yes hating an oppressive fucked uo government is fascist
2
Yes, you're so oppressed you have to spend all day shitposting about video games on reddit. Poor guy.
1
You’re sleeping still clearly
1
I mean, it is incredibly stupid, but not ban worthy. Democracy isn't "everyone gets their way." You could highlight how a majority of people don't get their way through authoritarian methods, but that would require more coherent thought than is present in this meme shitpost.
1
The libertarian sub is just a bunch of right-wing chuds and anarcho-capitalists. It's basically a right-wing circle jerk at this point.
2
I like the cut of your jib!
1
> right-wing chuds yes >and anarcho-capitalists. no
1
This is an awesome awesome debate to have, and I appreciate you posting that meme. I would ask whoever responded to you to show you in the constitution of the United States where the word democracy is. They won't be able to find it. Because the United States is not a constitutional democratic republic by nature, it is a constitutional republic. It just so happens that in practice, we use a democratic means to elect our representatives. This is discussed in depth in the federalist papers, but those papers also explain why the framers never included the word democracy in the constitution. Though to be fair, the word popular vote comes up in some of the amendments to the constitution. In essence, I agree with you completely. Everyone is told how beneficial a democracy is, no one ever explains the risks of democracy. And because of that, most people have a very minimal understanding of why, though we as a country incorporate democracy into our system of government, that they were very careful not to delineate us as a democracy and that the constitution goes out of it's way to avoid using the term democracy.
1
Lol the mods there ban anyone who believes in freedom they don’t. It’s a case study on why libertarianism won’t work in practice by itself.
1
You're right though.... this is why we have things like the bill of rights, which ~~are~~ *should be* unassailable by the 51%
1
We dont have a democracy. It’s only “democracy” on paper.
1
Banned a while back for pointing out unregulated free markets dont lead to competition - and gave the Standard Oil Monopoly as an example. But to the point they had some mod changes 6+ months ago and have been ban happy since.
1
The Standard Oil example? You mean when Standard was selling kerosene for half the price of the nearest competitor? Lower priced goods are better for everybody. Monopoly is the exclusive grant of government. The HBC being given exclusive trapping rights in Canada for example
1
Not to mention Standard Oil was losing market share—down to 60%—well before it was broken up. Analysis of their practices have shown they weren’t price gouging or gatekeeping to undermine competitors. And even economic theory shows that the returns for creating a monopoly by price gouging competition or over-charging competition to use your rails are less than simply competing fairly and charging market rates.
2
You’re very misguided, but no reason to censor you or bar you from engaging with people who can correct you.
1
Conservativism, in any form, has only one priority: The self. It is identity policy, in that the identity of the conservative, as defined by the conservative, is good, and therefore anything the conservative does is good. It may be justified by nationalism, xenophobia, tradition, economics, or simply might makes right (when the conservatives possess the might). The justification is a means to an end, and that end varies with the individual, so it is not possible for a conservative to be a hypocrite. Their stances, their justifications, their goals are ephemeral and whimsical. Strip away the window dressing, and at the core of any conservative agenda is in unfettered narcissism. Protect the self, improve position, stall the enemy, and avoid progress that is not personally beneficial. Reframe your view of conservatives, because if you expect consistency of thought, you're not going to find it. Fighting their "ideas" with rational arguments is like fighting the wind with a tennis racket. You will fail to convince a conservative they are wrong regardless of the evidence stacked against them. If you want support from a conservative, you must show them how supporting you is beneficial to them. If you want a conservative to be a better person, take two pennies to a wishing well and ask for wisdom and serenity.
1
> , in any form, has only one priority: The self. Thomas Sowell — 'I have never understood why it is greed to want to keep the money you have earned but not greed to want to take somebody else's money.'
1
I don't think that's obvious to everyone unfortunately
1
It’s not just that sub it’s the whole app
1
The problem is, we don't really elect any of them. That's a facade.
1
Libertarians are just Republicans who want to smoke pot.
1
Mises Caucus took over the sub a while ago, it is no longer a 'Libertarian' forum. It's just MAGA cosplaying as if they are not Republicans.
1
The Libertarian party was taken over by the Mises caucus. I don't even think the Caucus uses reddit, much less run that subreddit.
1
Nah, there have been a slew of bans for going against their narrative. They had me banned from Reddit until I appealed and it was overturned. The mods are straight-up authoritarians. This is well known.
1
> I don't even think the Caucus uses reddit,
1
While I do, wow I guess we are at an impass.
1
Do have any evidence for that? I haven't even them mention reddit, much less /r/Libertarian
1
How about the slew of bans mention in this sub? You recognize they took over the party but act like Reddit is some obscure site no one knows of? Seriously, I am done going back and forth, you acknowledge you listen to them and I doubt you discourse in good faith. pax
1
> the slew of bans mention in this sub? Bans are not new. Why do you keep saying I am in bad faith? You have not provided any evidence that the mises caucus are the one behind the reddit bans on r/lib. its a pretty big claim and you have evidence when you make it, unless you want to dismiss that topic forever. Because I am about to. Any future claim such as yours will be tuned out, because i will remember this conversation. I am sure that everyone else has tuned out already and will filter out voices that say what you said forever. They are gone already, and I have to admit, I there too.
1
It was a stupid take considering many libertarian theorists criticised democracy as tyranny of the majority. Libertarianism isn’t just the libertarian party…
1
Your facile comment is actually the one arguing semantics of US Gov’t in response to a meme about basic theory. Not ban-worthy, of course, even by their rules, but /Libertarian is earning a very non-libertarian reputation. Most libertarians don’t approve of the Mises Caucus’s behavior. I’d recommend r/AskLibertarians , r/AnCap101 , or r/Anarcho_Capitalism (though it is a bit shitposty and currently being brigaded by Republicans lying to themselves)
1
Ya I got banned for the same reason apparently im either not libertarian enough or I'm to radical of a libertarian. Either way that sub was utter trash just an echo chamber.
1
Technically we are a Constitutional Republic. While democracy plays a part in our country it is by no means the actual end all be all.
1
Your problem is that you lack a fundamental understanding of the words you use, bud. Your meme was dumb, and you couldn't articulate anything related to libertarian philosophy. You also refused to be educated on your incorrect statements by anyone who commented.
2
To be clear, I was banned from the sub for my criticism of this meme, not for posting the meme
1
What is the form of government that would earn the zero-tyranny rating?
1
r/Libertarian has been taken over by alt-right chuds, no surprise they’re going on a censorship spree.
1
I got banned In the libertarian meme subreddit because I called out that some larpers support Putin
1
[deleted]
1
Lol at all the embarrassing people in this sub who don’t think censorship happens at the Reddit admin level.
1
Democracy is a problem because its tyranny of the majority and has lead to an increase in crimes such as prostitution, theft, property damage, etc which Hans Hermann Hoppe discussed in his book, Democracy: The God That Failed. Many even argue that Democracy inherently conflicts with private property and this is another reason for why Democracy is an issue. Imo, because I believe in Geolibertarianism as well as Winstanley's Agrarian Communism, Democracy IS the authority of the majority and contributes to many issues by society. Many wars, such as World War 1 and 2 as well as modern wars like Afghanistan and Iraq have all been fought in the name of God and Democracy. Ontop of the issues already mentioned, Democracy has always ended up reverting back to a dictatorship and why? Because even Plato came to this conclusion in The Republic. He states, “the ideal state is rarely achieved in reality and often deteriorates, transitioning from the rule of soldiers and lovers of honor, to Democracy, and then to Tyranny. This progression reflects a continuous cycle of struggle, moving from the best form of government to the worst.”
1
Last time I was on that sub they were big into free speech. Guess that's changed.
1
lol, you’re not a libertarian unless you’ve been banned from r/libertarian. That sub is just filled with democrats and republicans that don’t want to be affiliated with their party.
1
As a libertarian I wouldnt really trust any subreddits or most online spaces calling themselves libertarian to actually be what they claim. Like half of the people i see calling themselves libertarians are just authoritarian conservatives posing as libertarians
1
If you're implying anarchy that's just autocracy with extra steps.
1
I identify as Libertarian in my belief system but for some reason being libertarian, left leaning, AND relatively pro-democracy is a punishable offense around there.
1
Those morons over there are just Republicans who like to smoke weed.
1
I got banned from there too. r/Libertarian is very autocratic in it's moderation.
1
The United States is and has always been a Republic.

Just got banned for (what I think was) my take on abortion. Kinda funny considering I'm more "libertarian" than 95% of the people that post on that sub. Where are all the cooler libertarians migrating to for actual free conversation?
1
The weak mind that banned me said I was banned for "anti-libertarian trolling" or something and then immediately muted me from replying without identifying the post that was apparently against "Rule 1". I've posted on that sub on and off for 10 years and I think it's hilarious they thought something I said was anti-libertarian. I'm pretty sure it was a reply about body autonomy and how banning abortion is a violation of liberty. Kinda sad when left wing censors have taken over one of the largest Libertarian discussion groups on the Internet.

Libertarians, the anarchist ones in particular, are so strange to me for this specific reason you eloquently argued against in the third slide. I don’t get how anarchist libertarians expect a libertarian society to be maintained without even minimal guard rails only enforceable by the state. And since most of the time their answer as to how this would be done boils down to some kind of “community policing,” a.k.a. mob rule, then they’re sort of advocating for the same exact thing they always rail against with the Muh 51-49 trope because it’s the tyranny of the majority. Sometimes in response to that they’ll tell me that “people can choose where they want to live”…yeah, like, okay. Many can. Many can’t. Living somewhere is not automatically consenting to everything going on there. I thought that was a basic libertarian observation.

Based. Anti-democratic losers get fucked

I was banned from there a few months ago. I went over and checked it out today and they have a post up about censorship and banning and how horrible it is. 🤣. Whole bunch of snowflakes over there that own rifles.

In my experience, a lot of people who call themselves libertarians aren't, and a lot of people who call themselves left leaning centrists are libertarians. But nah, this isn't organic. Representative democracy is under assault. GRU has stepped up operations just like they did during 2016 and 2020. Every four years, Reddit turns into an astroturfed mess. And for every operative shelling the site with disingenuous bullshit, there's two idiots nodding their head.

All of reddit abors actual reasoning and skepticism. It's literally a self authority stealing monster

The far right hijacked the ideology during the tea party era

I blocked the sub because of the amount of outright liberalism that's pervasive within it's userbase. There was nothing to learn from the sub anyway.

Thank the MAGA world where people have been conditioned to knee jerk at any reference to democracy, even if you're quoting Reagan himself, responding angrily with "were a republic not a democracy!"
1
As a Libertarian, I'm disgusted by the tyrannical nature of this mod. The whole point of libertarianism is to let people do and say what they want...liberty. Just because he disagrees doesn't mean he gets to ban the user. TL;DR: mod is a tyrant and not a Libertarian, get him outta there
1
I wonder what there's more of, bad faith libertarians or bad faith Catholics?

FAFO

I got banned to it’s so dumb for being a libertarian sub the mods are very suppressive of ideas they don’t like
1
Is obvious why they were offended.

Libertarians are just MAGA But Yellow now. It’s a shame.
1
So... anarchy then? I'm down, because then I could slap the F out of people that day dumb stuff like this post.

"theyre not real libertarians!!" yall lose your shit when its a left wing sub and now youre tryna rationalize lmao dumbass sub

> One of the pillars of libertarianism is that people should be able to sell yourself into slavery That’s a lie: Some libertarians would argue that; but it is not a “pillar” of libertarianism… Probably most libertarians would disagree. Murray Rothbard proved that self ownership does not mean that one could sell oneself into slavery in a libertarian legal system; in fact the contrary. [Mises Review 5, No. 1 (Spring 1999) THE ETHICS OF LIBERTY Murray N. Rothbard New York University Press, 1998 [1982], xlix + 308](https://mises.org/library/ethics-liberty-murray-rothbard)

American libertarians are the most insane group of people I’ve met. One of the pillars of libertarianism is that people should be able to sell yourself into slavery and the main poster-child for libertarianism is Ted Cruz.

Libertarians are huuuge snowflakes. You try and question anything about their philosophy and they get super defensive.

Damm so it's not just me. I was banned from there today for posting an innocent comment that most the redditors agreed with and upvoted. Whats going on over there? [the comment that got me banned](https://www.reddit.com/r/Libertarian/s/TuRVl0SGHo)

Democracy isn't leaving conservatives, conservatives are leaving democracy. Look at this republican congress we have in the U.S. - Least productive congress ever, no vision, no policies put forth, only bad faith grand standing and theatrics. Look at Texas defying the supreme court, disregarding the rule of law. Look at this thread, all the conservatives jumping at the chance to advocate against democracy. Look at the conservative politicians cynically claiming the 2020 election was stolen, when its been adjudicated over and over, scrutinized and analyzed with recounts and audits. The election wasn't stolen, **you lost**. It's sad that the people who claim to want to defend freedom most fiercely are now it's biggest threat.
2
> it's biggest threat. All that shit passed for 9/11. Thats a nothing burger? The biggest threat is partisan squabbling over a recent election? Everyone still bitching about Al Gore claiming his election was stolen?
1
>All that shit passed for 9/11. Thats a nothing burger? Was 9/11 a.. nothing burger? Is that your question? You know that was 2001 right? It's the year 2024 now. Yeah I think when half the body of the electorate is starting to flirt with fascism, and is starting to think a dictator would be better for them than democracy, and they have a candidate who has shown he has no respect for the rule of law, an affinity for dictators, and has tried to overthrow our democracy once before... yeah they are the biggest threat we face today.
2
> You know that was 2001 right? It's the year 2024 now. Short attention span issue?
1
Can you just say what you mean? Try that.

Most self identified “libertarians” are fascists (as a prominent example, Ben Shapiro). It’s an attractive label because the far right in America love to larp about freedom (while still wanting a strict racial hierarchy and theocratic governance)

Leave some straw for the cattle, my man.

Libertarians are the canaries of stupid right wing takes and always have been. When the right gets mad at the Republican Party they ooze into libertarianism and don’t wipe their feet.
