Same thing happened to me. I messaged the mods and thanked them for banning me from a racist sub that I wasn’t going to post at. I added that if those same mods ran any other subs, please go ahead and ban me from those subs as well, since I don’t associate with racist subs. A mod replied back and said I was banned, it was permanent, and if I replied he would report ME for harassment. Then he muted me. Ok. Thanks dude!

Social media has given a voice to people who up until the invention of social media would’ve been laughed at to their face for saying something as stupid as the things they say, and those people find communities of other like minded people who then go on to believe that all of society must think that way since they found a niche subreddit with 1000 members who think like they do. It’s like an infinitely compounding Dunning-Kruger effect. Dumb people who are too dumb to know they’re dumb find other dumb people who are too dumb to know they’re dumb, and then individual people hear those two dumb people agreeing with each other and think that they’re right, so the individual changes their views to fit the views of the dumb people. And then another individual sees three dumb people agreeing and it goes on and on. It’s a compounding Dunning-Kruger effect mixed with the instinctual desire to be included and accepted which leads to the slow dumbing down of our society.

What's funny is that until you get banned from some subreddit for an innocuous comment, you might think the other comments you see are representative of public opinion, despite actual elections going the other way. Mods for provinces, cities, etc just ban anyone who doesn't agree with their minority opinion. Or actually, you don't even have to disagree, you just have to ask an inconvenient question or correct a mistake in the "wrong direction."

Holy fuck this is probably the most accurate thing I've read on the Internet all week. Prime example would be the Texas Politics sub. About 98% of the people in there are some flavor of commie or another, and they about had a meltdown when UT released their latest opinion poll results showing that the majority of Texans think illegal immigrants should be deported. They legitimately refuse to accept that the average Texan is statistically most likely to be white or Hispanic, makes *at least* $20/hr, owns at least one semi-automatic firearm, has at least one pickup or SUV in the household, is heterosexual, works either directly for oil/gas exploration or petrochemical industry or for one of their various support industries, self-identifies as Christian if claiming a religious affiliation, and is native-born. They can't understand how a political party running on a platform of gun control, anti-oil environmentalism, a minimum $15/hr "living wage", mass immigration, and taxpayer-subsidized "gender-affirming care" for kids is falling dead on its' ass outside of a few pockets of urbana...and it's fucking hilarious. What's even more funny is when they start trying to tell you that you're the crazy one, because forty other redditors agreed with them. It's downright comical.

Subject matter-focused subreddits are actual goldmines (groan) of valuable information. There's one in particular that has built up a collection of actionable advice and data I do not think exists anywhere else, and was the reason I found Reddit to begin with. I'm actually concerned there is no archive outside of Reddit for that info, which means a lot would be lost were the sub to be deleted at some mod's whim one day. That said, I got pulled into Reddit's "suggestions" eventually, and now it is mostly a place for me to view bewb pics, judge and comment on peoples' looks, and just let loose my rampant, unrestrained, anonymous id with impunity.

My wife got my 8 year old account that I used to stay connected with Marines banned by r/conservative. I had asked a sarcastic question which resulted in a ban. My wife, months later, got into reddit (bc of a hobby) and commented on r/conservative. I didn't think to tell my not to comment on that sub. When she did, reddit dropped the ban hammer. Initially I thought I could appeal it as I wasn't circumventing the r/conservative ban. It sucked to lose my name as I was very active in r/USMC. Ultimately, it was my fault. I should never have put myself in a situation like that. There's no point in engaging that echo chamber. Thanks for reading my vent

Yeah I once commented in a blackpeopletwitter thread not even paying attention and instantly got an absolutely insane automated message saying my comment was deleted and I was removed and had to take a picture of myself, submit it to the mods to confirm what race I am, and essentially doxx myself if I wanted to participate in the sub. It included all these bizarre instruction I had to follow and rules I had to follow based on what race you are. I responded by saying “do Lebanese Cypriots count as white or do we get our own special instructions?” Instant permaban.

This is light. I got banned on r/pic, r/mildlyinteresting and a few other big subs because I said at the beginning that covid19 was likely a lab leak, before we are allowed to consider the possibility. And that was based on my first hand experience in the non-existing safety culture in Chinese biolabs. Reddit mods are the most power tripping people online.

I love that muting tactic mods do they just mute you instead of having an adult conversation. The people that run rant did the same thing to me. I got banned for hate after using the word dislike and when I appealed for an unban they muted me for three days with no explanation why I was banned. After three days I sent them a paragraph describing the difference between the words dislike, hate and loathe and they said “DO NOT CONTACT US AGAIN OR ELSE” and muted me for a week. That pissed me off so after a week I followed up with “or what?” And they haven’t messaged me back yet. Like this is the internet don’t threaten me when you can just not respond. Being a mod doesn’t make you a god you’re still human like me so don’t act like you’re above me.

Same exact thing happened to me yesterday. This RedditCensors sub was suddenly recommended to me, I added one comment here (nothing inflammatory), and was instantly banned fr WPOT for participating in a ‘TOS-violating’ sub. Reddit has become such a shit hole in the last year. I’ll probably just uninstall the app soon.
