The banning of /r/uncensorednews was the first time I started to believe Reddit was actually trying to shape and steer conversations in a very specific direction. Don’t get me wrong - that place had its share of racist morons, but that wasn’t really any different than countless other subs.
What made that one stand out (at least to me) was that it had a growing base of people who weren’t racist, weren’t fanatical, weren’t even right wing - having logical, unbiased, well-thought-out discussions that weren’t inline with the idea that we need to be ultra-PC at all times, at all costs, no matter how serious the issue.
I think Reddit’s owners showed their true colours on that one, and decided some discussions were just too uncomfortable to have here - and that they’ll stomp out those communities before they get established.
Well written and said.
I agree on all points.
Have a look at r/news and r/politics, they are the extreme left side of the argument although remain without any issues.
I was just banned in /r/news for saying something about this in another sub. No explanation and when I asked for a reason I was muted. Detailed post here:
