To be honest, the sub did turn into a bit of a shit-show near the end, although... What the admins don't understand is that they will flow over to other subs.
Instead of leaving a sub isolated and letting clowns clown about, they actively push them out into the wild.
I don't think whether the sub turns into a shitshow or not should influence whether a mod decides to BAN the WHOLE subreddit. People can choose to browse and post if they like a good ol' fashioned shitshow, or they can browse a different subreddit. The mods have bastardized the fundamental concept that defines reddit: a true democracy where the users collectively decide what content deserves to be at the top and what content should fade into oblivion.
I can't imagine what was going through this mod's head when he decided that he knows best and that he would make an executive decision on behalf of the users; effectively gutting reddit of the very concept that it's founded on. The most reasonable explanation I can think of is that most of these mods are in their early to mid teens. I just find it hard to believe that a sane adult would conclude that this is the best course of action. (Sidenote: I actually believe that the average redditor's age is heavily weighted towards pre-teen and even single digits based on the shit I read, but I could write an entire collection of essays and short stories on this little theory of mine.)

I'm so fucking happy to be a part of this subreddit where people believe we should have the freedom to say things that may be offensive without fear of being silenced and stricken from the record.
This isn't a sub that says "we support what people are saying." It's a sub that says "we support the right to say it."
This is what I don't get about right-wing communities. Why get yourself banned for some throwaway crap like Serena Williams? Nobody will remember that incident in a week, but your community is banned forever. It's like /r/altright getting banned. For what? I don't even remember, but that subreddit getting banned definitely hurt the cause.
Start building power/institutions like the left instead of throwing it away.

It's obvious they were just randomly going to pick something to ban mde for. AHS and many other anarchist type subreddits regularly promote violence and nothing is done about it. Everyone knows fph, altright, and mde were banned because they didn't fit the narrative reddit is trying to create. Reddit is one big psyop, and we know it. We're just too stubborn and keep quarantining to new subreddits.
I wouldn't even consider myself altright, and I didn't agree with some of the idea being shared on mde. But it was one of the few places where people really said what they meant, even if it was behind several layers of irony and inside jokes.
I'm sure some people there really did believe some of the holocaust denial shit, but what the fags don't understand is that the anti-semitism and all that wasn't the point. The point was that everything was in play and anything could be funny. Memes of jimmy neutron's dad doubting the holocaust titled in his exact vernacular were funny as fuck, simply because it was so absurdly offensive and out of character but somehow still so in character.
The point was that everything could be funny. Sometimes it would be dumb as shit, but sometimes there would be really in depth, educational shit. Mde was one of the most educated group of people on Reddit. You could talk history, philosophy, 80s music, realpolitik, playing guitar, rock climbing, cars, bourbon, whatever. Anything.
Real ideas don't fear investigation. We never banned any of the AHS fags that showed up, we just trolled them until they gave up. The banning of MDE just proves what we already know, that their ideas can't stand up to real scrutiny. They have to ban us because they can't entertain the fact that we might be right about a few things.
