The exact reason why the Dissenter extension was created in the first place.

Oh hey, it's the /r/news abusive mod!

I really can't believe the extension lasted longer than 60 minutes. Allowing free speech on the internet in 2019? Might as well murder a dude or two...

100% this. The spark lasted just long enough to get a fire going. Hopefully we can keep it going. No doubt the social media overlords will start filtering mentions of it if they haven't already.

It's the default reaction of people who who don't know how / want to deal with difficult issues.

Isn't it banned on chrome store too? Are there workarounds?

Yes. Slightly more tedious, but still easy to do: 1. Head over to [https://dissenter.com/download](https://dissenter.com/download) and download the zip file for your browser and extract it (right click the file -> Extract all). 2. Open chrome://extensions in your browser and toggle on Developer Mode in the top right corner. 3. Click the Load Unpacked button. 4. Browse to where you extracted the zip file and select the folder "dissenter\_extension\_chrome\_v015" and click Select Folder. 5. Done! This should work for any Chrome-based browser. Instructions for other browsers are on the download page, although the only real differences for most are just the names of the files (except Safari, of course). EDIT: Just wanted to add a note that Gab has started work on their own Chromium-based browser that includes Dissenter and ad blocking built-in. Will definitely be taking a look at that in the future when it starts taking shape. Can't stop the signal, Mal.

Here comes the tech authoritarian take over.

On the up side, I'd never even hear about this extension if not for the ban wave.
