Rule 1 - Stay out of r/politics if you are not progressive or a leftist.
Rule 2 - Stay out of r/politicalhumor if you are not a progressive or a leftist.
It’s not like you can debate them, the classical liberal is long dead now replaced by some weird combination of pseudo intellectual who can’t be challenged on their ideas. Open debate is hate speech for them.
Only when the hate speech is actually hate speech. Though I freely admit both subs have the same problem most subs have. If you're not on the same page with everyone, prepare to be down voted.
And political humor reflects the people in charge at the time. It's not liberal or conservative.
I dunno about the statement with the conservative subs being like that. Yes, they are filled with conservatives, but there is always welcomed open dialogue. Or more so than other subs.
However the above two subs should be a balance between the two, but they are not. They are modded by individuals who suppress viewpoints they do not agree with.
As someone who is banned from r/conservative for trying to create an actual dialog I strongly disagree.
I've also been backed by the Donald too, but that's so easy anyway it should just come with every new username
Heres the difference:
/r/politics is labeled as neutral, and meant to appear to be the popular politicial opinions
conservative and /r/the_donald CLEARLY state that its a biased place and you will be banned from it if you troll.
**progressive liberals think they are sneaky and can change people's minds without doing any work or real critical thinking.**
>The fact that stuff gets downvotes is a reflection of the site and it's population
Cut and pasted directly from David Brock's "how to discredit your opponent without having to think" playbook.

It is absolutely \*NOT\* organic behavior. If this site were as heavily leftist and mentally ill as you would have us believe, there would not have been a need for all of the algorithmic suppression and shadowbanning of the conservative subreddits and their users. Don't give me that Russian bots bullshit either.
Yes but once you are downvoted to -100 points, you can only comment every 10mins.
Also they ban a lot of people which makes it seem like their ideology is in the majority, which can trick gullible people.
Defacto rule - Progressives today are regressive, pro-censorship, humorless, morons.
There is nothing progressive about todays version of progressives, same as liberals today arent liberals.
> or a leftist
This looks to me like evidence that politicalhumor is defending Biden, and Biden isn't really leftist
Edit: I don't go on /r/politicalhumor much, are they ripping into Biden for being a fucking creep?
The “whinging” the offending mod speaks of is any time one of my posts was removed for “breaking a rule” when it didn’t I’d find 5-10 highly upvotes posts on the front page that all broke the same rule (usually the no attempt at humor one) and send them a nice collection of posts that had 500+ upvotes and were just Occupy Democrats reposts or Twitter screenshots.
I don’t whinge, I simply don’t like unfair treatment. If you’re going to remove my posts for supposedly not being funny (I’m hilarious btw) yet allow objectively not humorous or even things not intended for humor on your front page, I take umbrage with that.
Technically speaking, not all humor is designed to do so. However, humor is subjective to a degree and as such will ultimately function that way and piss someone off, even if that angry reaction is simply an “I don’t like this joke.”.
But yeah, the left can’t meme for shit
> Technically speaking, not all humor is designed to do so.
Theres a pretty sound theory that EVERY JOKE is actually shadenfreude. Think about that for a minute. I didnt agree until I really thought about it. Every joke is always at SOMEONES expense.
That’s a fair point. However, simply because a joke has a punchline that it derives humor from at the expense of the punchline does not necessarily mean it’s designed to piss them off. Furthermore, what about puns, or jokes that have the butt of the joke be some inanimate object or social construct, such as Mondays at work or something?
Quick disclaimer too I’m not some SJW who just REEEEEs at something an labels it as a social construct, but obviously the concept isn’t necessarily a false one even if idiots have co opted it. Furthermore I’m not saying all social constructs are bad.
> Furthermore, what about puns, or jokes that have the butt of the joke be some inanimate object or social construct, such as Mondays at work or something?
Well puns aren't jokes. They're puns.
And as far as the butt of the joke being about mondays, for example, unpacking the punchline reveals the target. Case in point, the monday joke will be funny, but WHY do mondays suck? Karen in Accounting. Or Boss Bill Lumburgh. Or even deeper than that: and inanimate object. Your shoes are inanimate. If I make a joke about them, its at your expense. Make sense? Every joke. always going to be at someone's expense.
Puns are considered jokes, though. A type/genre of joke yes but a joke nevertheless.
And that’s a fair point. However, simply because a joke is at someone’s expense does not mean it’s intended just to piss them off though.
>Puns are considered jokes, though.
Again, they aren't. Thats why they're called puns and not jokes. If I say "Hey, you're punbelievable", I didn't just craft, construct, set up, knock down, or deliver a joke. I didn't take your brain anywhere with a humorous intent. All I did was recite a figure of speech. Thats all a pun is: a figure of speech. It's word play. It exploits definition or similar sound. Thats it. I made a sound with my mouth and you reacted to it. I can fart, thats a sound, and you could laugh, thats a reaction, but that isn't a joke either.
Technically if you farted that’d just simply be a fart joke. To use the Wikipedia page for joke’s definition of a joke (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joke), puns would be considered a joke insofar as they are the punchline and generate humor (the purpose of a joke). They fit all 6 criterion of the General Theory of Verbal Humor (GTVH), and the criterion under many other theories.
So yes they are.
> Technically if you farted that’d just simply be a fart joke.
Farting isnt a joke. Its just farting.
Also, your wiki link disproves your claim in the first sentence. Why did you even paste it?
>A joke is a display of humour in which **words are used within a specific and well-defined narrative structure** to make people laugh and is not meant to be taken seriously. **It takes the form of a story, usually with dialogue, and ends in a punch line.**
Thats not a pun. I literally just told you: **A pun is wordplay**. It's just a play on words. It is not a joke. It actually only fits TWO of the 6 criterion for GTVH and thats language and logic. You seem to think that anything that makes you laugh is a joke. Thats not how jokes work. Making a funny sound isnt a joke. Farting isn't a joke. Puns aren't jokes. Screaming loudly isn't a joke. Watching a fat person fall off a roof isn't a joke. Making a funny face isn't a joke. All these things will make you laugh and all these things are funny, some of them might even BE DESIGNED to be funny. But they aren't JOKES. Literally the definition of the two words, pun, and joke, are two different things. You can't say that all pizzas are fruit just because they both go in your mouth.
