I think this is a good use of moderation - the post had no relevance in that thread and should have been removed. I'll even go all "conspiracy", since that is where it linked back and say it was intentional to gather notice in subs like this one.

That is what Mods are for. Their sole purpose should be to keep the sub on topic and moderate when it it strays do to natural progression. Some jackass shitting in the middle of a thread with none relevant crap should be pulled.
