That was good of him/her to reach out to you like that. Even as a mod, we do mess up here and then.

Its good to highlight the good apples, but the issue is systemic. I don't see any hope for reddit unless there was something external that forces reddit to change.

I'm a mod and I rarely ban people and when I do it's never permanent.

Yeah, I think there are legit reasons to ban people. Like clear harassment, threats, stalking, and that sort of stuff. But not being banned for offending someone is the foundation of freedom of speech. And I think a supermajority of reddit mods are of the mindset that some things should not be allowed to say. But that mindset is exactly why we criticize other countries for not having the freedom of speech ideal. So then we become not only lacking in freedom of speech but also full of hypocrisy. Anyway. Thank you for standing up to an ideal.
