Comment mentioning clip of Chomsky talking about censorship, even of holocaust deniers, removed from thread at worldnews about canada censoring those folks

I messaged the mods and no reply back and comment has not been approved. Strange since my comment (mentioning Russiagate in that very same thread) wasn't removed. No, I'm not a bigot or holocaust denier, I just dislike censorship and people cheering on their govts sliding into authoritarianism all while claiming to care about 'fascist' threats and wanting to protect democracy. https://np.reddit.com/r/worldnews/comments/u0282y/z/i4458xl

It's scary to me how many people, who see themselves as free thinkers, are willing to limit speech. Particularly in nations that are known for their free speech.

The UCLA was literally started by a group of Jewish lawyers, whose first case was to defend the free speech of Nazis. Actual Nazis.

Dude one of the stories my mom told me about her trip to Europe in the early 90s was about going to Germany. She was staying with a family in some small town and everyone was so nice and treated her with respect. Then with three nights to go until she travels to the next country this old grandpa, who was of course such a nice old man, got drunk and started going on about how the holocaust was a lie and he never sided with hitler but never saw any of what happened to the Jews so he still thinks it’s all propaganda hogwash. My mother was assured by the people more of her age that grandpa was just old like that but the damage was done. There are a mountain of trolls out there but there are also very real people that think it really is just one massive lie.

No, you're supposed to discuss with holocaust deniers and provide them evidence to show them how wrong they are. Silencing them isn't going to change their mind, and will only strengthen their resolve.

You don't think it's right to engage in dialogue with someone, to see why they think a specific way? You just want to ban the discussion of verboten topics? I mean you're right, thinking is pretty hard, why bother doing that when the government just tells you want to think.
