On one hand, for the russians, those guys are just foreign fighters fighting a war against them, so they're taken as prisoners of war. On the other hand, reddit has a huge problem ever admitting that ukraine is slowly losing the war.

If anything, reddit would remove things that make Ukraine look bad. More than likely censored because it would spark empathy for Americans in some way.

They are, period. Politically, they're not US citizens as much as they are POWs lawfully captured in a war. It's not really news as of yet, and tbh publicizing it does nothing but increase their value as bargaining chips which is exactly what Russia wants and needs.
