Comment on: Semi-beginner here, is there a good place for me to get back into it?

Hey, sucker, I just got the right to downvote. I made sure you were first on the list. :)

Comment on: Less than 2% unemployment for programmers in Albuquerque, it is like this everywhere?

It's pretty low in Portland, OR too.

And not related to the OP's question at all.

Comment on: (Python) Is there a better way to say dictionary_one[max(dictionary_one)]?

Sounds like a great question for /v/python.

Comment on: Why this sub sucked on Reddit and how to make it not suck here

Wait, I just scrolled through a couple of pages of /v/programming and I'd say it already sucks. Posts titled "need some advice," "colors," "how do I pick the best color" will only drive quality posts away.

It's too bad I can't downvoat you because your comment is not helpful at all. It's just an off topic rant.

That's too vague a question. You have to decide why you want to learn programming, what you want to do with it, and how much time you want to spend on it. Learning to program requires a lot of motivation, time, and commitment.

What programming language should I learn first?

Huh, I felt that not allowing text posts made /r/programming much better. Otherwise it would have been cluttered with newbie posts or posts like "what is your favorite editor?"

Comment on: Is it worth spending the time to learn Emacs today?

Eclipse is bad and is dead, especially for Android. Use IntelliJ. You can use IntelliJ for javascript, html, etc. too.

Long time Emacs user here. I switched to IntelliJ years ago. Emacs is, once you learn it, much better for text editing but not so good for any other aspect of program development (e.g. navigation, integration with other tools). So while you might enter text faster with Emacs, your productivity will be faster with a good IDE (i.e. IntelliJ).
