For load testing, you can try JMeter: https://jmeter.apache.org/ Would be good if you are combining it with a J2EE environment.

Wow you speak so much truth. I am also skeptical as to how far IoT will go in terms of the home automation space. Around 50% of homes I would say still don't have an automatic dishwasher FFS.
