Comment on: How many of you can still read your own code you created years ago?

Pretty good, I write documentation in my code.

Gigabit... $360 a month

batshit crazy

A quick lookup. I have to pay 75 euros a month for telephone and gigabit internet. And for 66 euros a month I can get full HD TV, telephone and 500 Mbps. You are born in the wrong country ;)

jesus, I have 100mega bit ps up and 40 down for 25 euros a month. And that is because I couldn't use the cheapest provider cuz I live in a cheap house and the last inhabitant didn't pay the bills so the address is blacklisted.

Even though they say there is no such list, I had issues with multiple companies not wanting to provide stuff, so I just order things on another address, and I call them saying I had the wrong address, and it will get fixed and send to my address.

You could automate the email and zipcode part. But that way of how the economy sounds, sounds like anarchy to me ;) Nothing but monopolies

Why not make make it a cronjob?

And it must suck to live in America. Europe may have its downsides, but boy do we have much competition here.

But they do give 2 free trial hours a month and use a devices MAC address to track a device

I expected it to be something like that, but you go through all that hassle for 2 hours of internet? Or is the internet so damn expensive?

(Seriously, i've been stealing internet for two years.)

Do you hack WEP passwords, use unprotected internet points or do you do something else? Stealing sounds like you are doing things you are not supposed to be doing.

Comment on: For those who went from one language to another that were wildly different, how did it work out? Any advice/tips?

Matlab gave me headaches. The inability to typecast and random changing of variable types made my life a hell. I wish it was a bit more strict.

Comment on: What programming language SHOULDN'T you learn?

PHP

Mathlab

LabView

The first two are not descent with their variables, you can't define the variables and while working with them, in Mathlab's case, they will change to another data type without any valid reason.

And LabView is just weird, and overly complicated.

Nice!

I did install let's encrypt on my own homeserver, so I can use owncloud with https, it is rather easy, with certbot handling the auto renewal.

Comment on: Which programming language to learn first [infographic]

It started with java(my real programming) and now I use the language that fits the project. Arduino? C. Raspberry Pi: C or python. Web? Java or PHP(ofc I prefer java over PHP anytime).

If you know one language you basically know them all.

My native language isn't English either, but I am not quite sure what you are trying to say with being new?

Comment on: How to become a hacker

Proof reading is essential before posting something.

But it is an nice article, but I think I do not agree with the proposed definition of hacker in the article. It is more a guide how to learn to handle computer/computercoding.

Comment on: To service or not to service. That is the questions...

I don't really get the problem, but a startup script launching the program would be the end of all troubles right?

Or did you mean to make a SQL database with a webpage front so you can easily export it to Linux?

Comment on: New to mobile programming - how difficult is this concept?

There is little competition in the wireless market in the US

Than nothing will work

0 30 Mar 2016 08:07 u/DrBunsen in v/programming
Comment on: New to mobile programming - how difficult is this concept?

Sure it does. It forces the wireless carrier to provide you with the data they sold you. Whether they do or don't proves whether they can or cannot.

You are actually implying like they can somehow feel the increased data, and if that was so, you would slow down everyone else their data, providing that everyone in your area uses your app. And they will just say, see the network is sufficient. Thus rendering your entire idea useless, and only slowing down everyone else who just wanna use the network the last few days of your cycle!

At least, that is the situation I reckon that will happen when you do this, because it sounds like that company is like that. Are they having a monopoly or something?

Comment on: New to mobile programming - how difficult is this concept?

IT should save some space when using up your cap, because are those caps 1000bytes to a kb or 1024 bytes to a kb?

And this is not proving anything, it is just a risk to go over your cap.

And if it is so expensive, why do you have such a high cap that there is a real need for an app like this?
