Comment on: MINIX The most popular OS in the world, thanks to Intel

I think more important than the fact that it is MINIX is this bit:

Why on this green Earth is there a web server in a hidden part of my CPU? WHY? The only reason I can think of is if the makers of the CPU wanted a way to serve up content via the internet without you knowing about it. Combine that with the fact that Ring -3 has 100 percent access to everything on the computer, and that should make you just a teensy bit nervous. The security risks here are off the charts — for home users and enterprises. The privacy implications are tremendous and overwhelming.

Comment on: Code Academy's bullshit!

Would you mind pasting the exact assignment wording? Something seems off here. $47.50 looks like it would be the right total for the meal and the tax but adding in the tip puts it over. Even just the meal plus tip, completely ignoring the tax, puts it over $51.

It sounds like maybe you're not including the cost of the original meal in your total. There are a couple ways to do that. You could just add in the original meal price at the end, or you could multiply it by 1.0675 instead of 0.0675.

Comment on: Programmer quits work on project after getting triggered by a variable name (The comments, however . . .)

I'm fine with suggesting the variable name change just for the sake of professionalism. It personally wouldn't bother me but I could at least respect that position. Suggesting a variable name change to make a "safe space" implying that the source code is a dangerous place with that variable name is some stupid nonsense. The people in the comments were saying it isn't even sexist on account of anyone can give head. So who are these imagined people that are put in danger by such a variable name? People who give head? People who don't?

Comment on: Come up with the most inefficient, poorly written, and complex way to print out "Hello World!".

That reminded me of this thing. The Evolution of a Programmer.
