Comment on: China will likely ban all bitcoin mining soon
I've heard that it's the bitcoin miners also causing the hard drive shortage right now.

Comment on: Apple Discussed 'Punitive Measures' Against Netflix for Dropping In-App Purchases
When you read the comments in the article, it's extremely easy to pick out the people who Apple is paying to make positive comments. They don't even try to hide it.

Comment on: Microsoft says mandatory password changing is “ancient and obsolete” (2019)
When my company mandated that people use complex passwords that change frequently, people just started putting them on post-it notes on their monitors because they couldn't remember them.
Great job, guys.

Comment on: Red Hat (IBM) pulls Free Software Foundation funding over Richard Stallman's return
Here is an article that has the whole e-mail thread that is at issue:
https://www.vice.com/en/article/9ke3ke/famed-computer-scientist-richard-stallman-described-epstein-victims-as-entirely-willing
Having read through it, the jist of the thread was whether or not Marvin Minsky "raped" Virginia Giuffre, who was one of Jeffrey Epstein's victims. Stallman made two basic arguments that Minsky did not rape her.
First, Giuffre presented herself to Minsky in a manner that appeared to be consensual. Minsky should not be held responsible for the circumstances that let up to that point, especially if he was completely unaware of them. Giuffre was undisputedly a victim of Epstein, but how would Minsky have known that.
Second, the definition of "rape" should not be dependent on the local laws in the location where the incident took place. Rape should be defined as an assault that has elements of force or violence. People shouldn't be demonized because of the particular age-of-consent laws in the Cayman Islands.
BUT NONE OF THIS MATTERS!
People should be able to have discussions about ANY TOPIC without being "canceled". If someone can make a coherent argument in favor or against a given position, then they should be allowed to make that argument. You can disagree with the argument if you like, but you cannot silence the person making the argument. This is a foundational belief of modern civilization.

Comment on: Ford says ‘millions’ of its vehicles will run on Google’s Android starting in 2023
People don't seem to like it, but if it's a choice between Android and Ford's miserable proprietary operating system, I'd really rather that it run Android.

Comment on: The Air Force Is Building a Spacecraft That Will Beam Solar Power to Earth
I like seeing innovation, but these panels would have to be like 10,000 times as efficient as earth based panels to make this project economically feasible.

Comment on: Conservative unease with science is global, but extreme in the US
You have to draw a distinction between "unease with science" and "unease with scientists". I fully trust the scientific method as a way to examine the universe around us. But, I do not necessarily believe that "scientists" are using the scientific method without bias and in good faith.
