but this could also just be an empty PR show, and they may keep a light touch.

That's not the SJW way. Just look at Twitter immediately after they announced the new Trust and Safety Council: Criticize a Feminist? Banned! Conservative white male? Banned! This will happen in some shape or form at Github.

What is an anti-harassment tool, in this context?

Creating tools to report "harassment" or "micro-agressions" against "minorities"?

Providing tools to remove (blacklist?) white/straight/male contributors over whatever a "minority" deems harassment?

Penalizing projects that do not conform to the new Code of Conduct?

The threat towards game devs is real as evidenced by their reluctance to speak out over the Gamergate controversy; anyone white/male/straight (pick any combination) not toeing the line risks having their career destroyed. Some have lost their jobs for being associated with the "wrong" side, even a black male.

Edit: OK, finally figured out I couldn't reply because I was trying to post a link to a banned domain. FWIW, the error message "You are doing that too fast. Please wait 30 seconds before trying again" does not convey the actual error.

Straight white males get blacklisted and the quality of open source projects drops, and projects take longer to complete due to in-fighting over inane, irrelevant bullshit. Meanwhile, MS, Apple, and Intel (more H-1bs, please) are laughing all the way to the bank.

Comment on: GitHub's new far-left code of conduct explicitly says "we will not act on reverse racism' or 'reverse sexism'"

You know, I just realized NotABug is on the neutral list. They're good!

But they actually did remove the repo which tells me they can, unless I'm missing something.

I'm sure they weren't left out intentionally. According to their Whois info, the domain was just registered in February, so they are very new to the game and likely just unknown to most of the programming community. Sharing their info as much as possible will help them get some needed recognition.

2) The GamerGate repo that was removed from Gitlab.com contained instructions on how to boycott other brands via fake twitter accounts.

The reason for the multiple twitter accounts is to avoid being doxxed and/or getting yourself fired by these people reporting and lying to your employer. A number of Gamergate supporters have faced real harassment and lost their jobs for simply having the wrong opinion. Gitlab was wrong and it was pointed out in the first reply to the thread you linked, and they do deserve to be boycotted.

We are absolutely getting sick of it. If you've been following Gamergate as I have, you're probably boycotting a lot more than that for the exact same reasons. If you hadn't noticed, my link was to a 4 month old thread in /r/KotakuInAction. Yes, Gamergate is way ahead of everyone else.

Alternatives to Github.
