Agreed, end-users do care about these things, but ultimately don't have the coding knowledge to actually request things that make sense. They see (and vaguely understand) the UI, so if something's wrong, they ask the devs to improve the UI.
Also, it's probably best not to bring up consoles in the discussion of video game development. Except perhaps as an example of how a dying business model clinging to locked hardware can hold back an entire industry.
