Comment on: Of course, I never do this...

Ask "why?" 5 times. That's the average number of levels of abstraction you have to get through, just to get a clear picture of the root problem.

Comment on: Will being a programmer become a near minimum wage occupation?

What kind of programming do you think an AI will be able to do, without a programmer to provide a model of reality and help the process along? We have AI that are good for very specific tasks, but they are all terrible at generalizing. We may be able to make an AI that can program a niche set of things, but we are a far cry from much else.

Comment on: What programming language is good for a beginner?

If you want to learn to program, first you have to learn how to Google things you don't know. Do you expect him to explain everything about Lisp when you can just look it up yourself?

Comment on: The last year I have seen a sharp increase in technology jobs adverts with SCRUM

My engineering team has a scrum meeting every morning. It is an incredibly valuable tool for keeping up with the rest of the team's progress, and planning and setting goals for the team. I've worked at other places without scrum, but I didn't get even half as much work done.

Comment on: What industry do you work in?

Mobile security. I am a software engineer, but sometimes I end up filling in for the sysadmin. Day to day is typically engaging enough to be entertaining (I enjoy solving complex problems), but I have my fair share of boring and stressful days. All in all, best job I've ever had.

Comment on: Finding Entry Level Positions

What languages do you know? How many places have you applied? What websites have you used? Do you have a LinkedIn account? Are you connected to anyone through it?

Comment on: Hate GitHub being taken over by gender politics? Don't worry, you're not alone.

Hurray for GitLab!

Comment on: A Twitter bot, written in Python and running on a Raspberry Pi, that tweets randomly selected Voat post titles.

Neat project. It looks like you are putting multiple titles in the same tweet though:

What do you hope/believe happens after you die? This is what happens when you reply to spam email

Only looks that way on some of them.

Comment on: What do you automate in your life with your programming skills?

I made a simple PHP script that operates an APC master switch to turn on/off various electrical gadgets. I really only use it for a single lamp, though.
