I'd guess exposure?
Honestly I'd not heard of uBlock until I needed something on some lower powered laptops. Adblock has brand recognition.

I have it installed on a couple machines with less ram than the others, what makes it that much better?

Fair point, I have that installed on at least two machines but haven't profiled them in a while.
If you have the hardware locally, I hear gitlab is decent. No actual experience using it though,
Bitbucket's out there, but I'm not sure if they offer unlimited free repos.
I've also seen Beanstalk as an option, not sure how much it costs though.
