If you want true security you should use PGP via email or whatever communication that you prefer. It isn't convenient, but it is secure. Just make sure that you maintain control of your private key.

The specific language he used to describe the problem and his actions to remedy it made it pretty easy to catch. If only all tech support problems had users like him I might have stayed in IT.

It would be really fun to take a broken one and fit modern hardware into it. Looking on ebay the price seems about right for a fun project. I might just have to do it.
