So should we ban every sub that bans people for not participating in their particular echo chamber? Because a ton of subs do that. I've been preemptively banned from subs that I had never even heard of! I think the idea is that—echo chamber or not—people would like the opportunity to view or participate in it if they so choose. I definitely visited The_Donald frequently so that I could see the counter spin of what the multiple anti-Trump subreddits had just posted. I follow Bernie pages and Clinton pages and democratic politicians and TYT and many others on Facebook, but I also follow Trump fan pages, Ron Paul pages, Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, Ben Shapiro etc. Plenty of Green and Libertarian pages in the mix as well. Sometimes I agree with someone and sometimes I disagree, but in the process I at least learn about a differing perspective on an issue. What better way to come to consensus on an contentious topic than to see both sides of an argument? Most of the time, hearing the argument from the "other side" just further strengthens your convictions—fair enough. But occasionally, you realize some topics are more complicated than your initial knee-jerk reaction, and you come to a more nuanced understanding of both positions. I see both of those things as positive. On those pages I post rarely and deal with trolls frequently, but there are always truths to be found on both sides amidst the turmoil.
So I understand that it's a private company and all that, but I just like being able to visit a place where I get to see some real perspectives that I ordinarily would not get to see if that place didn't exist. And if they get annoying, I leave.
