The threat towards game devs is real as evidenced by their reluctance to speak out over the Gamergate controversy.... Some have lost their jobs for being associated with the "wrong" side, even a black male.
Good point. People have a right to their own perspectives on issues, and merely stating what it is should not be grounds for condemnation. I guess I'm just not sure how we know this will happen at github because of some unspecified "anti-harassment tools". What is an anti-harassment tool, in this context?

Straight white males get blacklisted
Have they been doing this already, or is that speculation? If so, to whom; if not, what makes you think that way?

I guess I don't mind the crap on reddit too much, since I tend not to subscribe to subs with overzealous mods (except for askhistorians). I annoy folks plenty on reddit without getting slapped around by moderators.

Could someone explain what practical effect this will have for the site?
Hmm, I after reading the code of conduct, I see what you mean in that there are a few definitions of harassment that seem no worse than being rude, and may seem a bit too specific. It'll be interesting to see if they get a bit overzealous, and if there would be repercussions because of it: it seems like a possibility, but this could also just be an empty PR show, and they may keep a light touch.
