Incidentally, I found this while trying to find possible reasons for default subscriptions:

A reply claims that Reddit automatically subscribes new accounts to subreddits recently visited in that browser. I used incognito, so it possibly explains why I have no cookies for Reddit to use and thus no initial subscriptions.

Just tried it, after account creation I was prompted to subscribe but didn't.
Then the browser redirected to /r/popular (includes non-subscribed subreddits, like /r/all).
If I view the front page for my subscribed content (reddit.com) I see zero posts.

Yes but that automatic subscription thing has allegedly been removed. So I was just wondering if admins lied, and you're actually subscribed, or you just happened to see a post on /r/all (which includes even subreddits you aren't subscribed to).

Did you see the post on reddit.com/r/all or reddit.com? The former includes all* subreddits while the latter only shows the ones you're subscribed to. It's possible you're not actually subscribed to them. Actually you can just visit /r/TwoXChromosomes and see if the button on the side says "join" or "leave" to see if you're subscribed.
*Technically not all subreddits, they exclude certain "undesirable" communities chosen by the admins.

Comment on: In which the /r/AskReddit mods proceed to remove tons of top level replies. I genuinely don't get what's going on here. All the replies are perfectly on topic and aren't "jokes" or anything that breaks the "serious" tag.
At any rate it's not an automod blacklist, since those are removed too quickly to be archived, and certainly wouldn't have any votes at all.

That kinda makes sense since pinned (or mod? I can't remember) comments don't count towards karma.
But still, the mod is being a huge asshole when confronted about it. They should have just explained instead of being so needlessly defensive.
