Github is shit; Git is good.
I don't understand why anyone would use the public offering when they run Git themselves....(hint, convince them). I like Stash/Bitbucket, but it may not be free in your case - I forget the terms.

So, no loss there. Maybe even a net gain.
My favourite variable name, after a few hours, tends to be $workyoufucker.

I'm fine with calculators, though an understanding of the underlying math would be nice. Knowing that I can google this or that gives me more cycles for exploring other concepts or problems (end up inadvertently memorizing whatever info anyway, but not concentrating on just that part lets me go farther faster).
Where we fail is understanding and comprehension, not just of math but general reasoning .
Give a kid a word problem and watch him melt because what to do is not drawn in crayon, and not only must they do math, but they must figure out the equation.

I do hope that some folks who can use it do get the opportunity to do so, but let's face that cold hard truth - most do not have the mental fortitude for such an education.
Sad, but c'est la vie.

Yes, I definitely see a lack of critical and logical thinking in the younger folks at my job. Even the college educated ones.
It is sad.

You should at least know how to read it, I think. But I work in a technological field and may be biased.
Having an understanding helps you gather evidence and know what is needed when trying to convince those haughty dev guys that yes, there is a bug and yes, they need to fix it.

Thank you! I'm sick of every jackass who has made a "hello world" calling themself a programmer.
Lots of folks can code, few folks do it well (and that's how you get gaping security holes).

Thanks for sharing! I haven't dug too deep (sleepy), but I like the concept (and 'make it do a thing' is my favourite approach to learning).
I enjoy this fellow, he's very articulate.
He is also very correct regarding technical debt issues.
