Comment on: Computer Programming to be renamed Googling Stackoverflow

copy paste ... with little thought needed

Yep. Convenient but maybe harmful.

developer.Mozilla.com for all my js structure and Dom reference needs.

I hate that the top 3 spots on any jsvascript topic are automatically f-ing w3schools.com.

Comment on: Microsoft has release a "Sublime Text" clone that works on linux, MacOS and that other OS. I guess this is the end of the world. It's been nice knowing you gents.

There are two functions I love about TextPad that I haven't found elsewhere:

  • cursor return position: say the cursor us on col 40 and I paste something that puts cursor to col 50. When I descend to next line, cursor returns to col 40.

  • late sourcefile update check: when the file I'm editing is changed (by another process) I get warned when I try to save. Other editors spnd time and effort checking timestamps every time the editor gets focus. For my particular (nonstandard) setup it introduces a ~5 sec delay - interminable!

TextPad also has syntax modules (with an active community contributing).

Although forced to use N++ on work PC, I still prefer TextPad.

Comment on: What is your favorite comment you came across in code?

Back in the day, in an age before the internet here was a COBOL payroll system. The system ran weekly. There was an error message generated for the check stub description line if an amount had more than 4 digits for dollars (>9999.00). The error message was "THIS PERSON MAKES TOO MUCH MONEY". It was triggered. Management was...somewhat less than pleased.

Comment on: Language of choice?

JavaScript (ECMAscript) is now a viable language on the server side as well as the browser environment. It is my current preference.
