Right but if the source code isn't available, you never know. I never recommend proprietary software solutions unless there isn't a FOSS alternative.
I'm not saying with certainty that their code isn't available, I just don't see the search on their github.

Maybe wrong but I don't think DDG's projects are open source so better to use Open Street Maps (OSM) if you're looking to get off Google.
Frankly though unless you're very anti-tracking I'd suggest sticking with Google Maps for normies. OSM has the information but none of the clients are very good.
