Comment on: Linux marketshare doubled since five years ago. From 1% (July 2011) to 2%, July 2016.

You're in the minority these days mate. The install process for most distro's couldnt be simpler. Literally. Its most likely a video card driver issue, theres no reason the monitors themselves woud be the issue. Im sorry your one of the rare cases, but it is pretty rare these days.

Comment on: Stop saying learning to code is easy (because it sets begginers up for disappointment).

Lets be honest. Learning the basics (assignment statements, integers vs strings, simple math) is easy. Putting those into practiceto make something useful is hard as fuck.

A perfect example is the google.com source code. Thats just frightening for the average hobbyist to look at, but if we tell people how hard it really is no one will be interested.

Comment on: Which programming language to learn first [infographic]

Nah, a lot of us agree with you. Its faster to test than C and has a lot of support, but there are better languages to start with by far.

Comment on: TIL there is a linux distro with intentional vunerabilities designed to make users learn how to fix them

The point was to upgrade and configure a lightly outdated system. The latest version predates the heartbleed bug by more than a year. If you can even find it.

DVL is no longer being maintained and it is difficult find the last version. The original site has been down for quite a while in fact.

Comment on: I realize this might be an obvious question, but is anyone else annoyed by how programming has transformed from an understanding of concepts into blatant marketing speak?

Well said. Gone are the golden days of fly-by-your-pants coding where you'd simply binge on coffee and disconnect the phone until you had a functioning program and an understanding of what you are doing. Now you have to have the right credentials from a school you cant really afford to do something you dont really care about for a corporation that doesnt care about you and repeat constantly, until death or liberation.

Comment on: I Want to Start Programming. Where Should I Start?

For simply projects like internet toasters or light following robots its fine but you'd have to start all over if you move to anoth platform because arduino is not a programming language.

Comment on: I Want to Start Programming. Where Should I Start?

But it doesnt use a real programming language and there are few actual tutirials. Just copy-paste guides online.

Comment on: I Want to Start Programming. Where Should I Start?

Generally, arduino is a poor choice to start with too as its primarily programmed in a simplified version of C where the difference isnt even explained.

Edit: C++, not C

Comment on: I Want to Start Programming. Where Should I Start?

Python is a pretty common choice as it comes with the IDLE developement enviroment built in.
