Been a long time since I actually looked at /r/politics (it’s useless to even read) but one difference between those subs is that one is openly partisan (fan club for and the other purports to be nom-partisan).

I was proactively banned from that sub, even though I never said anything political in there, because they went and found i was in a conservative subreddit.
They literally purged the subreddit of anyone that didn’t hate trump.
