Woah, this brings me back. It still surprises me they moved to / created the nonprofit IRC network https://libera.chat/ abroad instead of simply hosting a Matrix instance wherever they wanted. Federation, bridging, privacy. It's all there. You could even bridge it with Slack or some random IRC networks if you really wanted to. Cool post though. I can't believe QuakeNet had so many users as late as 2005! Woah ^^
