as much as I know it is a tag that is added by the admins, it makes the thread to not show up on reddit.com or /r/popular/. basically a way to hide uncomfortable reality from potential customers.

they do this for the same reason they attacked charlie hebdo, you can bet that /u/isentrope was glad to hear that people who criticize the pedo prophet were shot dead.
